From a UK newspaper, the Telegraph
----------------------------------------No leader in American history has gone to greater lengths than Barack Obama to make amends for his own country. From condemnation of American “arrogance” in a speech in Strasbourg to acknowledging U.S. “mistakes” before millions of Muslims on Arab television, Obama has rarely missed an opportunity to apologise for the actions of the American people. President Obama has elevated the art of national self-loathing to new heights, and seems to delight in prostrating the most powerful nation on the face of the earth before its critics and rivals, especially on foreign soil.” From Michelle Obama Upon the nomination of her husband, “I have never been proud of America until now” From Barack Obama’s chosen spiritual leader for 20 years “*Gosh *darn America ! “ Rev Wright’s Liberation Theology was twice condemned by the Pope for it’s Marxist foundation. From Obama’s community organizing comrade I only regret we did not do even more bombing (paraphrased) Minutia ? Obama banishes the bust of Churchill from the White House and sends it back to Britain. Obama thanks Hugo Chavez for a book condemning America. Obama accepts without comment the display of a Che Guevera poster prominently displayed in a local campaign office. Obama launched his Senatorial campaign from the home of a man who in 2001 told the New York Times that the notion of the United States as a just and fair and decent place “makes me want to puke.” In New Orleans “ we had to realize that we were no longer the America we had hoped to be". " But here's the good news: America was ashamed and shocked." From the Russian newspaper PRAVDA "like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed." "The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama" Does this not all add up to something? Who is this man? What are his real goals? Prelutsky says watch out for a 28th amendment to end the two term limit. But if his goal is limited to President of the United States of America: Why does he spend so much time courting and pandering to the rest of the world? Why does he bow down before the King of Saudi Arabia. Why does he say America could be considered to be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world? Why did he see his nomination as “ the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.” Are we to ignore all the signs? *edited by CIH - profanity [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 4, 2009 12:15:41 PM] |

You know, there's a reason why we don't allow guilt by association in this country. You're going to have whack jobs floating around if you are in a position of power on either side of the political fence. What is he going to do? Tell them to get lost? That's a sure way to NOT get elected. Personally, I would take support from any quarter unless and until it became an embarrassment - or I could reasonably forsee that such would be the case. If somebody wants to go door to door selling me as a candidate, I'm not going to go out of my way to stop them unless they presume to speak for me. That's where you draw the line.
----------------------------------------Is this deceptive? I guess so. But the American electorate demonstrated long ago that honesty is not near the top in its list of criteria for public office. The real world always involves dealing with the gray areas. All you can do is assume the best about people until they do or say something that forces you to believe the worst. As for being unduly self-effacing, after the Bushmeister, a little humility isn't going to hurt. A lot of people spent the last 8 years, on forums just like this, apologizing to members from other countries who were simply astounded at Bush's arrogance and ignorance. I wasn't one of them unfortunately, but I know a lot who were. Bushes momma musta never taught him that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. On the other hand, BO's racist grandma obviously did pass that lesson along. And we should thank god for that fact, not complain about how he is making us look weak - because I am quite certain that is not the prevailing impression. ![]() ![]() |

I apologise, unreservedly, for the unmitigated tripe published in that supposed broadsheet, the Telegraph.

----------------------------------------i am proud of that fact i do get ashamed when people thing that 1 or 2 posts in foreign country newspapers is the end all be all of whats happening in the US every source out there any paper any country any news report has some spin to it and takes one side or another yes I have some concernes with what our president is doing but i am also happy with what hes doing in other areas it is really hard to tell from less than 1 year our of 4-8 years how things are going my only question to you is did you vote? I dont care what canidate you voted for but if you did not vote at all then you shouldnt be complaining... if you did vote then you did what you could do then.. you could always try becoming a lobyist or find some big political area to post things on. right now not enough has happend to be able to tell what is going to happen. just look back 4,8,12,16,20,24,28 years ago and see what was being said about each president by the US and forign papers. ![]() |

The thing that annoys me is this american idea that the President (or at least the office of the President) should be shown great respect. Okay, that in itself doesn't annoy me. What actually annoys me is that the people who say this most loudly when a Republican is in office, suddenly forget all about it when a Democrat is elected. Fox News is particularly guilty of this.
Here in the UK, we mock all our leaders (while extending them all due courtesy). Politicians are fair game. Maybe it helps that we don't vote for our Prime Minister directly, so it's not just a popularity contest. I voted today. :-) |

Let blockheads read what blockheads wrote. Warren Buffett Lose your freedom? You, lost more freedoms, rights and liberty under Bush than anytime previous or I would dare say in the future! If you have let an article lead you into thinking wrongheaded, then I would say you are more of the same old problem than the cure. I will always be proud to be American, I would not judge so quickly! Try to be a part of something better by having something positive to say, not so quick to agree with the naysayers! |

The Prime Minister is elected as a Member of Parliament, just like any other MP. The party selects a leader, and the leader of the party with a majority in the House of Commons is asked to form a government.
If the leader of the governing party changes, then the new leader becomes Prime Minister without facing a general election. Gordon Brown and John Major are recent examples. |
