windows 7

It was announced yesterday that windows 7 will go on sale October 22. Right now, you can download a release client that is good until June 1 2010. Is anybody downloading the release client? If so, how is boinc running on it?

Re: windows 7

We have a machine in our alpha testing environment running Windows 7. We are testing the BOINC client per se but testing our research applications running on Windows 7 via the BOINC client.

Just a FYI.

Re: windows 7

The current Windows 7 RC is good until June 1, 2010, however begining in March 2010 the RC will start reminding you that "...your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010 . You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use." Microsoft Q&A regarding Windows 7 (You will need to scroll down to see this answer)

I am currently running Window 7 RC 32 and 64 bit versions and my Windows 7 machines never have received the dreaded error message "exit code 1 (0x1)" for HPF2 work units. Granted, this was not an extensive scientific test, however HPF2 ran far better than Vista were those error messages occurred. Otherwise no WCG WU issues have occurred using using BOINC 6.2.28.

Re: windows 7

I've been running boinc on both the beta and release candidate (x64) versions. So far no problems and as mentioned by Nasher, 7 uses less sytem resources than Vista biggrin
