I've completed the Vista SP2 update, and found that as a result, at least on my 32-bit Vista SP2 machine, I need to stop boinc.exe from running while I make full backups now if I want the backups to complete successfully. How can I stop boinc.exe without causing errors in all the workunits in progress? I assume that this means I must stop all BOINC-related programs from keeping any files open, so how do I stop any others as well? boincmgr.exe is easy to stop safely - just cleck on the red X at the top right.
It's not clear yet it this also applies to incremental backups. It does not seem to apply to my 64-bit Vista SP2 machine. |

Have you tried suspending BOINC?

----------------------------------------1. Backup of the BOINC data_dir is useless for a reason. A restore could include jobs afterwards completed and transmitted e.g. The server will cancel all work if the contact counter of a restore is out of step with the one on the client. 2. But if you wish, if the backup program has a clear process name appearing in the task manager you can add that process name to the <options> section of the cc_config.xml. That will pause BOINC as long as that program/app is loaded. The coding is e.g. <exclusive_app>backup.exe</exclusive_app> and each app to pause BOINC must be entered on a new line.
