The condition Pending [Re]Validation is to indicate that the waiting is on more results to get to a Minimum Quorum, so validation can proceed. Aside from the technical reasons, load balancing of processes on the server for instance, occasionally a "proceed to validate" flag is not set and the quorum required minimum number of Results will sit seemingly ad-infinitum in the Pending Validation state. Whilst the cause is not clear, the system does though check after a period of time, for instance when the original deadline expires, if more copies need sending, or a validation should be forced when the techs want a batch to be completed quickly. Certainly these stuck quorum results are being pushed nightly to the result Transitioner when older than 19 days [read source]. Patience is thus required. Unless manually forced by the WCG techs, they WILL be pushed on. Worst case, a Quorum turns Inconclusive (aka Pending Revalidation) and extra copy/copies are needed to be send with short deadlines to complete the transaction. Then a little bit more patience (or trust the system and forget about it ;>).

In September '09 a feature was added to the Result Status page that can accelerate the complete quorum validation for stuck items. If quorum is complete and a validation was not undertaken by 00:06 UTC midnight statistics update, a "Try Validation " link will appear near the header of the workunit status page. When clicked with mouse, a "Scheduled for Validation" will appear and the Work Unit is pushed to the validator queue. Some time after, depending how busy the servers are, will the Result appear as Valid or other status such as Inconclusive or Error.



NB1: The Try Validation option will only appear the day after the day the minimum quorum for validation check is complete!

NB2: At times when the techs are collecting specific data during beta tests, this validator might be paused for a longer period of time. A Try Validation would then remain without result.
