Of course if running such a small queue causes nerve damage, fear of idling CPU, you could keep an interim buffer of 0.2-0.3 days... then you'll have current job + buffered covering about 7.2 hours of server downtime.

Lets just review this thread. A question was asked:
Why has there not been an announcement about the shortage of work in this project? That question was posted 11 hours ago. No response directly to the question has been offered. My largest computer has been out of HCMD2 for a while: 28/05/2009 7:19:06 PM|World Community Grid|Message from server: No work sent 29/05/2009 12:04:05 PM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks Of course if running such a small queue causes nerve damage, fear of idling CPU, you could keep an interim buffer of 0.2-0.3 days... then you'll have current job + buffered covering about 7.2 of server downtime. HCMD2 has been out of work for over 16 hours now. No posting. No heads up. Scribe, maybe they don't need us anymore. |

HCMD2 has been out of work for over 16 hours now. No posting. No heads up. Scribe, maybe they don't need us anymore. Or, perhaps, due to the various issues with the WU sizes, the techs are just so busy attempting to resolve that issue that they simply haven't had a chance to keep abreast of communicating as to what's happening... This is still a relatively new project, and, unfortunately, technical challenges will inevitably arise. Patience is what's required. I'm sure that there'll be enough work for everyone to achieve their set goals - whether it's Gold, 1 year, 2 years of even 10 years... In the meantime, there ARE 7 other projects with active work Edit : Also, this delay will allow some of the WU's that are currently in PV jail to make their bid for freedom [Edit 1 times, last edit by gb009761 at May 29, 2009 4:27:09 PM] |

The moment one senses there's no supply for the fav project, simply reduce the cache/additional buffer to very low ... e.g. 0.01 and keep that 'alternate work' option ticked so the device stays busy without backfilling days of work. Then when the project returns set the Cache/AB back to normal. This way only the current job needs finishing before returning to modus normalus. And, still getting occasional CEP and HCMD2 work, FLU filling in the gaps, for now. Ahhhhh... so instead of not worrying about it until next month or so, your suggestion is to micromange the network usage preferences. |

Also, this delay will allow some of the WU's that are currently in PV jail to make their bid for freedom Let's hope so. I've got more than enough in my own PV cell to kick me up & over to get Bronze finally... Ah well, things would probably be much easier on everyone if I didn't micromanage so much. However it is somewhat fun & my OCD wouldn't let me stay away |

ZoSo, No I don't, I just recite the options available for those that do wish to micromanage, like you, though against my religion
----------------------------------------For those feeling the silence, it's like there can't be enough supply similar to CEP. The stats of the past 5 days in results, including a projection for today: May 25-09 95676 May 26-09 95048 May 27-09 100168 May 28-09 91263 May 29-09 81738 Who's got them? A certain quad for sure who snapped 1.5 days worth with 20 minutes TTC per task, when in fact they run 1:25 on average. No wonder the drought. Sorry guys, but that's all I know and heard.

I can put some clarity into this discussion.
First - we missed the fact that the slots assigned for HCMD2 were sitting empty. The monitoring that we have had in place to check for these types of issues has worked well for 1,2,3,4,5... projects but has started to be less able to catch these types of issues with our large set of projects. I am going to have to re-work my monitors so that we can catch these quicker and not have to rely on reports by members here in the forums. There is a large number of Linux results that need to be processed by reliable computers (see another thread about the higher than normal rate of invalid results for HCMD2 Linux). if this condition gets worse, eventually it can cause work to only be only available for these computers (which is what happened here). I have reset some things to get the work flowing again. However, the Intel Linux machines are still causing some issues. We are investigating further. |
