Hi,
----------------------------------------My home network is having problems lately and randomly there are moments where the PCs can not connect to the router. I guess that in one of those a couple of work unit did not download completely and now I'm not able that they finish to download even with good connection to internet. Moreover, no other work unit is downloaded. I have the same problem some days ago and I finally aborted the download but i would like to know if there is another way to proceed less hard. Thanks for the help ![]() |

Hello Trotador,
If Retry does not complete a Transfer after rebooting, then all you can do is Abort. For the record, which project, version of BOINC and OS are you using? Lawrence |

For the record, which project, version of BOINC and OS are you using? If that info really helps, I had one from the DDDT project that got interrupted when my link went down for a few minutes (6.2.28, XP Pro SP3). From then on whenever it retried the WCG server was directing the request to an unresponsive IP from a /16 block owned by IBM Research. I can probably go through the logs and find that IP if it's relevant. After a day or so I aborted the WU from the Transfers tab. WU download error: couldn't get input files: <file_xfer_error> <file_name>dddt.13.dat.gzb</file_name> <error_code>-197</error_code> <error_message>user requested transfer abort</error_message> </file_xfer_error> |

This happens and is too sparse to investigate. A boot of the system should return normality in most all cases, however inconvenient.

These are the 2 relevant WCG IPs
----------------------------------------198.20.8.241 198.20.8.246 The 129.42.58.216 IP is found in some IP blacklists. http://www.robtex.com/ip/129.42.58.216.html Somehow it gets many mentions on google. http://netzome.com/129.42.58.216

That robtex.com link says ''not listed in any blacklists''. And netzome shows the same info I found elsewhere
NetRange: 129.42.0.0 - 129.42.255.255 CIDR: 129.42.0.0/16 i.e. IBM owns that entire /16 block. Just because it can't be pinged/traced doesn't mean they're not using it. All I know is I would click Retry Now on the Transfers tab, and on the monitoring interface of a proxy I sent it through temporarily (just so I could see exactly what was going on) it would show that machine making a request to worldcommunitygrid.org, then immediately try to contact that IBM IP... the TTL to the IBM IP would expire and then on the Transfers tab of BOINC Manager it would change to saying 'failed download' and (usually) increment the wait-to-retry counter (sometimes decrement). e.g.
While 4 other machines had no problem connecting to get new WUs during that same time frame, and yes - I tried rebooting it. I didn't have the log level set high enough on that machine's audit settings to record the amount of details that I would prefer... it is now, but that's ok - next time I'll just abort any failed transfer as soon as I notice it in boincview, and forget about it. Thanks for your time. |
