WCG-powered roleplaying game - how many points per day?

Hey, all! I'm going to interface my browser-based roleplaying game with World Community Grid and provide players with expanded in-game features based on their contributions.

The programming side of things - getting the variables out of WCG's xml files and storing them in my game's database, coming up with a validation scheme, making sure that the person who owns the WCG account is the same person who owns the player account and so on - is done. Now, I just have to tie this information into the game by assigning a fictitious currency, and create things for the players to buy. Bizarrely enough this is the hard part!

To ensure that the game remains balanced, I could do with knowing roughly how many points it'd be possible for one computer to generate in one day.

TBH I'm still not entirely sure how "points" are calculated - does anyone have a link to a more comprehensive overview than is provided on the WCG website?

Also, am I correct in believing that Points are distributed according to effort rather than results (IE a 1ghz machine left running all day will generate roughly as many points as a 2ghz machine in similar circumstances)?

Many thanks for any replies, and I'll post a link to the game once it's operational,

-CavemanJoe

Re: WCG-powered roleplaying game - how many points per day?

No. Credit is proportional to work done, so a 2 GHz machine will earn twice as many points as a 1 GHz machine.

If you want to reward dedication rather than the amount members spent on computing power, then you can use runtime (the same metric that the badge system is based on).

There are some more (incomplete) details here: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Credit_system

BOINC points are explained in this wiki article: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Computation_credit
