Continual error 193

Just to see if there are ever differences between boinc clients, I have my machines running a variety of versions: 5.8.15, 5.10.45 and 6.2.1. I set my profiles to this project last night. One 5.10.45 machine is running happily, but overnight other 5.10.45 and 5.8.15 machines went through hundreds of WUs, every one of them failing like this:

<core_client_version>5.10.45</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
process exited with code 193 (0xc1, -63)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
INFO: Initializing Platform.
SIGILL: illegal instruction
Stack trace (6 frames):
[0x80e45e7]
[0x8153ea0]
[0xb7fec420]
[0x8049cb1]
[0x8162156]
[0x8048131]

Exiting...

</stderr_txt>
]]>

[Edited because I forgot which machines were running which versions. ]

Re: Continual error 193

Worse still, I can't give one of those machines any work at all, even for another project!

Re: Continual error 193

Hello Kremmen,
I have run 4 HCMD2 work units through BOINC 5.10.45 on Windows XP. I suggest you start by rebooting and select other projects. It will take a while to rebuild a larger daily download by returning valid results.

Just checked again. I've had success on 5.10.45 too. (Thought that machine was on 6.2.1, but it's not.) However, mine are all linux. Rebooting is irrelevant. Restarting boinc makes no difference.

The two 5.10.45 machines are running the same OS version, same kernel (2.6). Only difference is that the failing one is a P3, while the working one is a P4.

Greetings,

I have some celeron and P3 machines that are erroring out with Signal 4 in the logs on linux as well. I am going to increase the priority of this issue as it was not seen during beta. Initial thoughts are the optimizations used when compiling use an operation that is not supported on these machines.

That would be my thought too.

When will affected machines be able to get work again? i.e. When does the daily quota reset? Midnight UTC?

Re: Continual error 193

"Illegal instruction" error occurs on the best of the tualatin P3 chips, the Pentium III-S 1.4.

I'm getting "process got signal 4" errors on an Athlon.

I'd guess from that that it is failing for all P3 and Athlon class machines.

Daily limits usually reset at 0:00 UTC.

Thanks. That appeared likely. The error message above occurred 49 mins into the UTC day, so that computer will be having a holiday from WCG today.

I was neither able to successfully crunch HCMD2 on a P3 (OS is Debian Lenny):

<core_client_version>6.2.15</core_client_version>
