Stock up, as tomorrow a scheduled 11 hour BOINC server outage is planned starting 21:30 UTC (Inglish GMT). The forums will continue to function. --//-- |

That's really asking allot. As what I noted few days ago, the offspring generation is likely a periodic scheduled process. It would then be relatively easy to hold that process.
With the high variability of crunching times for results on this science, the exclusive HCMD2 crunchers will do well to cache at least 1.5 days. As it is, how many do read these forums and act on this? Few hundred to a thousand is my guess. --//-- |

After more than a day of offspring batches, I've now seen a parent batch 2319. Recent offspring were:
grandchildren 2275 to 2299 great-grandchild 2187 |

yes I admit i stocked up alot more then i should have (about 3 days) I am used to some other BOINC projects that a 8 hour update can take over a day or 2 This is what I did as well. Far too many times I've been told an upgrade will last x hours to still be down days later. The days of such wildly inaccurate estimates are probably past, but once you've been burned enough, it's hard to stick your hand back in the fire. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

SekeRob and others have said that they will disconnect to the server during the upgrade and reconnect when things quiet down after. This sounds like a good idea to me and I have stocked up for a few days.
My question is, how do I disconnect? Do I just check "network activity suspended" in the BOINC manager and revert back once I want to connect again? |

Nailed it first guess. I'm sure there are other ways, but that is by far the easiest.

you do not need to disconnect... you just will not be able to reach the server for those hours...

Nailed it first guess. I'm sure there are other ways, but that is by far the easiest. You can also simply set back your cache to its usual value (or lower if you want to be sure). You will have to do it sometime anyway. This way uploads will still be done as usual as jobs complete and you will not accumulate a backlog of uploads. That can be better for those who run CEP2 jobs for example. |
