I may be jumping the gun, but I have three VISTA 64bit PCs running WCG. Two are dual core, one is a quad core. All are running BOINC 6.6.20, but the issue predates that update.
----------------------------------------The issue is that I can't seem to get any WUs for the quad core. I have my projects set to only Influenza, with the option for other projects if Influenza has no work. The two dual core machines have 17 FLU WUs each, either active or in the queue. The quad core is running four and has two in the queue. I haven't been able to download a WU to it for two days. 5/11/2009 12:58:42 PM World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 5/11/2009 12:58:42 PM World Community Grid Requesting new tasks 5/11/2009 12:58:47 PM World Community Grid Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks The quad core has never had a lot of WUs in the queue, as compared to the two dual cores which have 15 WUs each lined up right now. But I could always update the WCG project and get some work. Yesterday and today, nothing. I've rebooted the PC, restarted BOINC, etc. I reset My Projects and checked them all, then Updated the client. Nothing seems to have worked. Any other ideas? Thanks RMau ![]() |

Well, what device profile is that quad associated with, does the BOINC start up message log say that overrides are used and if so, what is the cache / additional buffer preference saying?
----------------------------------------You run 6.6.20, so selecting a running task allows you to hit the properties button to see further job details such as result Duration Correction Factor. A reset should have put that value near 1.000000 though. Work availability for FLU is plenty. Just pulled a whole days worth for my quad... about 20.

I only have a single device profile, "default" for all three machines.

Well, 6.6.20 was promoted to "recommended" by Berkeley AFTER 6.6.21 was put out there and by now they're on 6.6.28 or 29, so it could be something weird in combo with the GPU. I've explicitly disabled the GPU permission in the cc_config.xml. Go back to 6.2.28, WCG's official version. Though it's 32 bit, it only helps to have 64 bit in running HCC faster.
----------------------------------------Oh, and do a "My Grid > My Projects > All Projects, just to test if you get any other wwork. Requesting tasks and not getting any is weird... but I've seen that happening too with 6.6.

Thanks RMau I had a similar problem on my Q6600. I tried what you did in restting project and clearing preferences to make sure it was using same default as everyone else. I reinstalled BOINC a couple of times. It would run 4 tasks but not queue any work. I thought I tried everything, then two days later it started working fine. - Mitch ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Read up on disabling the GPU function or try a later alpha, or return to the recommended 6.2.28 if GPU crunching is not done at all.

I went to 6.2.28 and tried 'My Grid > My Projects > All Projects' and then updated WCG. Still the same. Just not pulling any new projects on this PC. I boosted the WU cache on the two dual cores, updated WCG and both added WUs to the queue.
----------------------------------------So, its the BOINC installation on my quad. I've set WCG to no more tasks and when the six I have (four running, two in the queue) finish, I'll deinstall BOINC and then reinstall it. We'll see what happens. RMau ![]() |

Deleting all the client_state xml files may do the trick too after unloading the client completely. It could contain a corrupt time keeping section which would not get corrected if resetting a project. Uninstall and reinstall would neither as the old files would still have been there.
----------------------------------------A good time keeping section would look like: <time_stats> <on_frac>0.983132</on_frac> <connected_frac>0.952805</connected_frac> <active_frac>0.968785</active_frac> <last_update>1242068963.837791</last_update> </time_stats>

Thanks Sekerob.
----------------------------------------Apparently this may be self-inflicted. While looking for the xml files on the quad, I discovered BOINC installed in the 'Program Files' and 'Program Files (x86)' folders. I checked the newest of the three PCs and it only has BOINC in the 'Program Files' folder. I think the distinction between the two folders is 64 bit programs go in the 'Program Files' and 32 bit (x86) go in the 'Program Files (x86)' folder. So it looks like at least one of the BOINC upgrades I've done was NOT the 64 bit version, but rather the 32 bot version. And now, BOINC is confused about what is where and how to find it. I don't want to abort the work in the queue, so I'll wait until that is done and then try the uninstall and re-install routine. I'll post results. Probably late tomorrow. RMau ![]() |

Well, this may be a case of 'be careful what you wish for'!
----------------------------------------All my Influenza WUs finished and I reported them. Then I detached from WCG and shut down BOINC. I uninstalled BOINC 6.2.28 and searched the PC for any files or folders related to BOINC. I deleted everything I found except the downloaded install files. I did not go into the Registry. Installed 6.2.20 and attached to WCG. Got 56 WUs! Getting WUs is good. Getting 56 means it will be a while before I know if I get more. How does the scheduler work? Is it possible that these WUs have been queuing up for the past couple of days, waiting for my BOINC client to request them? I've never had that many in the work queue before. RMau ![]() |
