Hi,
----------------------------------------Could you tell us what normally causes the Results Status page(s) to be updated from 'Work In Progress' to whatever, please? Like, somewhere in knreed's original message or in Sekerob's follow-up post in the Results Status FAQ (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=6105). e.g. One of my machines finished a flu WU and uploaded it: 2009-05-07 09:50:37||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 27-Apr-2009 19:26:41) 2009-05-07 09:50:37||Host location: none 2009-05-07 09:50:37||General prefs: using your defaults 2009-05-07 09:50:37||Reading preferences override file 2009-05-07 09:50:37||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1535.61MB 2009-05-07 09:50:37||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 2027.01MB 2009-05-07 09:50:37||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 2009-05-07 09:52:37|World Community Grid|Restarting task flu10101b0059_100123_1 using flu1 version 604 2009-05-07 12:28:05|World Community Grid|Computation for task flu10101b0059_100123_1 finished 2009-05-07 12:28:06|World Community Grid|Starting X0000096811435200802271047_1 2009-05-07 12:28:06|World Community Grid|Starting task X0000096811435200802271047_1 using hcc1 version 606 2009-05-07 12:28:08|World Community Grid|Started upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_0 2009-05-07 12:28:08|World Community Grid|Started upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_1 2009-05-07 12:28:22|World Community Grid|Finished upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_0 2009-05-07 12:28:22|World Community Grid|Started upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_2 2009-05-07 12:28:29|World Community Grid|Finished upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_2 2009-05-07 12:28:29|World Community Grid|Started upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_3 2009-05-07 12:28:32|World Community Grid|Finished upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_3 2009-05-07 12:29:21|World Community Grid|Finished upload of flu10101b0059_100123_1_1 But I went to the Results Status page over an hour later and it still said 'in progress' for that WU. I then used the Update button on Projects tab in that computer's BOINC Manager 2009-05-07 14:13:17|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 1 completed tasks 2009-05-07 14:13:22|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks checked the Results Status again and that WU was now marked Valid. So after some tinkering I see how to force it, but what makes BOINC do the update itself (normally)? The 'Connect about every' interval on the ''network usage'' tab in Preferences? e.g. If that's set to 0.25 I might need to wait up to 6 hours before the Results Status for that computer is updated? Or is something else in play on that, too? Thanks! [Edit 4 times, last edit by Former Member at May 7, 2009 6:52:29 PM] |

When you found the Result Status FAQ, you were close to the Ready to Report FAQ too: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16783
----------------------------------------It may not be 100% up to date with the 6.6 upcoming client, but very close I'm sure.

The layout of these messages gives you a clue: normally it is Boinc which sends a scheduler request... when it needs to download more work. And it uses this opportunity to report all "Ready to report" jobs waiting at this time. The reason for working this way is that both operations (requesting new work and reporting completed ones) require access and updates of the main database, and these operations are much cheaper from a DB load viewpoint when as many as possible are done at the same time. Cheers. Jean. |
