Hi everyone, as a new member to this project i have been in awe to the contribution being made to needy research.
In Parliament recently, a debate was conducted into the condition which is not widely known. FIBROMYALGIA. This is a chronic muscular condition (which mimics MS), effects mainly women, and to date there are approx 2.5 million sufferers in the UK alone. Unfortunately due to the complexity and miss understanding of this condition it is very hard to diagnose, and some sufferers have been waiting in excess of 3yrs for this painful and crippling condition to be diagnosed. I would be grateful if the WCG might consider this condition for inclusion into their research projects. I have a personal interest in this, as my wife has been suffering with this for 4years now, and continues to deteriorate. Here is a link which i hope will be of interest. http://www.fibromyalgia-associationuk.org Thank you Jim |

Hello Pulse_James-S,
The World Community Grid does not design research projects. Instead, we assist scientists in running their projects. This is discussed in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewSubmitAProposal.do We are always willing to discuss new research projects, so please spread the word about WCG to any researchers that you know. Thanks Lawrence for taking the time to reply. I will certainly look into this avenue, and take the appropriate steps.
Thanks again Jim |

Pulse_James-S, I don't want to diminish the importance of this syndrome, and the need for more research.
You know there's a "but" coming.... From my reading of this subject, it isn't fatal and symptom management is available. For a project to run of World Community Grid, two of the most important criteria is that the project have a humanitarian goal, and that the research is technically suited for grid computing. At the moment, research in fibromyalgia is at an exploratory stage, with the causes and even the symptoms clouded in uncertainty. Basic research projects such as Human Proteome Folding are likely to be useful in future fibromyalgia research. |

Thank you for your reply Didactylos. It it a positive response, knowing research projects such as HPF are taking this on board.
Hopefully future fibromyalgia research will benefit from this. Thanks again for your quick response. |
