confused swine flu

i guess now is as good a time as ever to raise the importance of using idle processing time for such vital research

especially now with the potential pandemic of swine flu

what is everyones opinion on the way the media is portraying the issue & what are your thoughts on how WCG can help?

i wonder if WCG is looking into this as potentially another project?

Re: swine flu

Strikes me there is a danger it will be like the SARS scare, a media hype only. So far no deaths outside Mexico and most deaths there in males aged 25 to 45.....

Re: swine flu

Certainly WCG goes around and visits and presents at conventions and conferences to promote the grid resource, but WCG does not 'make' science projects.

As for SARS and BirdFlu, there were a grid projects that addressed this for instance the just ended D2OL.

As for that age group thing, is there a behavioural drive behind this? 25-45 age group may have a higher contact diversity, working populous than the younger and older... or is it that the elder have a broader resistance against different flu variations and the younger carry some from womb? Certainly a recent study revealed that those who survived the Hong Kong and Spanish flu pandemics to this day have a very high degree of immunity to those particular strains i.e. it's immunity for live.
