Whats happening with this WU? six people have run the unit in my quorem, 4 with errors, 3 too late (all returned within 24hrs though).
----------------------------------------Are we wasting our cpu time running this beta? Thanks for any info.... Allan ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The goal of a beta is to find errors, so nothing is wasted.

Err well yeah ok. Can I re-phrase my question?
----------------------------------------Will we get credit for crunching these WU's, even though they have been returned as errors/too late? hope thats clearer, thanks Allan ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Error does not get credit. (unless policy has changed since the last beta)
Too late does not get credit. Invalid does get credit. Valid does get credit. This issue comes up with every beta run. I hope this answers your question. Regards, Dan |

Hy everybody,
----------------------------------------If a WU finish in error because of our end, it is normal that we don't get credit. If the WU finish in error because of a problem in the program, what can we do ? It is nout our fault and we have help finding pointing an error. Same thing for "too late". Beta have generaly a very short "time due" and it happen that we receiv a Beta that must be return 24 hours later but the WU need more than 24 hours. What can we do in that case ? I'm not running for points and badges but my goal is to help scientists. But points and badges are there and a full part of that project. I understand members that are not happy because they crunched some WU and have no points for that because of an external reason for which they could do nothing against. |

Well, as of today, I have never received credit for Beta WU's that error-ed out. This includes 3 Betas I completed during this Beta test, so I wonder about your "policy change".
For those wondering, if you do not like "wasting" your computer time with error-ed Betas, then I suggest not running Beta WU's. I, for one, help with Beta tests to assist in ensuring projects run smoothly once they are released. Would receiving credit for Beta errors be nice? Yes, but it is not that important. |

Hello,
----------------------------------------I too did send back, after hours of computation, several WUs in error (code 131) last week. I would like to propose that at least CPU time should be considered by beta projects in case of failed WUs, otherwise it will be really hard to earn a beta-badge ! ... (few WUs, high failing rate (in relation to the number of WUs), rarely validated CPU time). I think that this proposal is fair and practicable! Isn't it ? Have a good day, Yves |

Old slow computers get more progress than new fast ones. Fair?
Eventually you will get a badge, errors or not, if you work at it long enough. No need to do a bunch of special code just for this. |
