Hello all. I have BOINC installed on five machines (4 XP, 1 Vista). They all are up and running, except for one.
It is an XP box. It is on the same network as the Vista machine. The settings, as far as I can tell, are the same as all the other machines. The only trouble is that it will not upload results and download the next work unit automatically. I have to pull up the client and choose the option to update. Now the box doesn't appear in my 'Device Manager' when I log in to WCG. If anyone has some ideas on what I should try, would be very grateful. Thank you for your time and assistance. |

Can you do 2 things:
----------------------------------------1. Post the BOINC message log from round about the time you hit the update button 2. Check the setting in the BOINC Manager activity menu.

OK,
----------------------------------------2. The menu options seem fine. 1. You posted a piece of log that shows automatic fetching: 4/15/2009 10:28:50 AM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by project. Thanks again for the reply. I clicked on 'Message,' copied all the messages to a text file, but did not locate 'Requested by user.'
The way I manually ask it to update has been Advanced View > Commands > Update. If I don't, it has a message about waiting to connect. It can say that message for days or weeks on end before I do the update command. Also, FWIW, the only thing different about this box is that it is dual-core and it will run two different work units from two different projects at a time. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it is one difference than the other three. Thank you again for your help. |

What is the language you run the client in as today we have possibly another case of lost in translation, on my part. Advanced view > Projects (tab) > Select/Highlight WCG and click the Update button on left margin.
----------------------------------------Running 2 different projects does not make a difference, both follow the same preferences.

What is the language you run the client in as today we have possibly another case of lost in translation, on my part. Advanced view > Projects (tab) > Select/Highlight WCG and click the Update button on left margin. I am running on an English-language OS. The process you provided is the one I have been using to update. Is there something I need to do afterwards? Running 2 different projects does not make a difference, both follow the same preferences. Good to know. Thanks again. I noticed in the log that there is a message about a newer version of BOINC. Should I upgrade this software? Maybe the text of the "user" update request is different between versions but there should be a line in the log signifying you requested the scheduler update. Like to see what the log shows before and after the file exchanges.
----------------------------------------Just ignore this 6.6.20 "we have a new client available" message. There are already 3 more point updates (6.6.23 alpha) after this "pushed out, come heaven or heck" release. The 6.2.28 version of WCG sends a message, when WCG is happy... prediction, version 6.6.45, at this rate of version refreshes.

Should I upgrade this software? No. If you want to upgrade, our recommended version is 6.2.28. Once you install that version, it will only inform you about new versions recommended by World Community Grid, instead of constantly nagging you with every release Berkeley push out. |
