Beta with very small number of work units (Windows only) [Completed]

Greetings,

We have kicked off a new beta with very limited number of work units. This test is on Windows only at this time.

Re: Beta with very small number of work units (Windows only)

An update on this beta test.

We have experienced two issues.

The first is that for some workunits one of the result files was much larger then expected. This caused results to be marked as error and the files not uploaded. We have discussed this with the research organization and they decided that they do not require this particular file so we have changed things so that it is not returned to the server. This has resolved this issue.

The second issue is that results returned are slightly different when computed on Intel vs AMD processors. We are discussing how to handle this with the researchers. We can either place computers running AMD or Intel processors into separate buckets (like we do for Windows and Linux) or we are looking at if we can write a 'fuzzy' validator which would consider an answer correct if the values within the result are within a small difference of each other.

thanks for you help!

Re: Beta with very small number of work units (Windows only)

We have launched a second round of testing for this upcoming project.

We have determined that the best approach for this project is to sort the workunits not only by OS but also by CPU manufacturer. This means that Windows/Intel computers will have their results compared only against other Windows/Intel computers. We will watch this carefully to ensure that additional differences do not exist within the different types of processors from a single manufacturer.

We are also no longer having the large file returned. A future beta test will prevent that file from even being generated in the first place.

Re: Beta with very small number of work units (Windows only)

There are still a few more results that we are waiting for to be returned, but we have completed this round of beta testing. This beta test was for the Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy - Phase 2 project that was released today.

We will be conducting another beta test for this project that will allow us to set a max time limit on the workunits. This beta test will start later this week and we will post a new announcement for it.
