Not running on all engines resolved self induced error.[Resolved]

I recently upgrades to a 9650 quad with 4 gig ram and have for the last month been running concentrating on child cancer. I'm using boinc 6.2.28 and while running like this it used all four engines. Since I made gold early this morning i opened my profile up to all projects. At this point in time i'm only running on three engines with the fourth idle. present task running are Rice, FAIDS, HCC I have other FAIDS, Human proteome folding task read to run but for some reason the fourth engine is idle.

I had hoped with the quad to get more thru but now i'm puzzled.

any ideas?

Mike

I'm just fingered it out. it was the multi-cpu level % that got me. I just found another entry in the forum and checked my and it was set at 75% percent but when I was child cancer only that was ignored and it ran on all four engines. after I readjusted like the post said to 100% it is now running on four engines. I'm still puzzled the difference between running a single project and multiple projects.

here is my message log after it picked up the profile change from single project to multiple:

then this morning after i found the entry about the multi cpu limit and I reset it.

Re: Not running on all engines

Ok,

1. housekeeping, please edit your opening post and insert [RESOLVED] in the title, so we all know.

2. The WCG projects don't care, one, few or all together, they will use any CPU core you permitted, and yes you probably got confused somewhere. BOINC uses the round-down rule so even if 99% were entered, only 3/4 (75%) of the cores would have been used on a quad and just 1 (50%) on a duo. Erring on the save side so to speak.

ciao

Re: Not running on all engines

Okay, I worked out what happened. Your profile originally contained no setting for the new processor option, so it used the BOINC default. When you changed your project preferences, WCG saved the WCG default for the new setting, which took precedence.

Berkeley received much criticism for the way they implemented the new setting. Many people were caught out as you were.

I do appreciate all of your quick responses. I feel very foolish, like the application programmer who tells me that he has not changed anything. If i only had a nickle for everyone who said that to me. Now I have committed the same error. Oh well issue is resolved and only my pride has been injured. I'm back up running on all four and so WCG will benefit. Have a good day!

[RESOLVED] Not running on all engines

Sorry, did not intend to inflict injury on pride or ego. S&@t happens and you just increased your contribution by 33.3%, for which we're grateful :D
