BOINC on Multicore CPUs

can anyone tell me where I can find settings for CPU utilization on Multicore Based Computers ? I have BOINC Agent on several PCs and they all used to work properly by utilising both cores and producing more results acordingly. Since about 2 week ago all Boinc agents on multicore systems stopped doing that and only single core is used for calculations.

Re: BOINC on Multicore CPUs

Did you upgrade recently from 5.10 to 6.x? Things dont change of their own volitions, most of the times.

There's a new CPU Processor % setting and if set to anything lower than 100% it will round down, thus 90% percent on a duo will allow running only on 1 core. The option to change via the "custom" button in the Device Profile is

If you are using version 6.2 of the software, then the number of processors used will be the lesser of the two fields below. If you are using a version before 6.2, then only the 'at most' field will be used.

On multiprocessors, at most use: 8 processors
On multiprocessors, use: 100 % of processors

And do clear the local preferences as they could be in conflict with the device manager settings.

(And this is probably the 1,000th time someone stumbles over this, proofing the utter poor implementation by the Berkeley developers introducing the second value)

Or update them accordingly if you have personal reasons to use them.

Certainly, but I don't see the connection? confused

Regarding my tip for Eimantas I was simply trying to not forget this good old principle: don't ask software users to use the tool the way you want, tell them how to use the tool the way they want/need. If it is possible, of course, and in this case it is possible.

Cheers. Jean.
