Re: Yada Yada Yada

I have 6 hex core boxes that hyper thread for 72 cores and a dual quad box for 8 cores. My main, daily, computer is a hex core also but I only run 5 cores so that I have plenty of power for other things.

The 6 hex cores are socket 1366 intel and have 1-2.53/3-2.67/2-3.06 cpu's. The dual quad is a 2.0. Farm is certainly, by today's standards, not cutting edge and not very efficient on electrical use. Cost about $10 per box a month to run full time @ about 13 cents per Kilowatt.

Farm will make about 400K WCG points which is about 55K boinc. I don't run full time, just for special challenges.

Each box and additional parts were bought "pre owned" and ran about $200 each to start.
Monitors were also bought used. I run one 4 box cluster on a KVM out in my shed. The others have their own monitor scattered through out my house. I tried running several boxes "headless" but it is too much trouble to move the monito around.

Re: Yada Yada Yada

3 dual socket Intel LGA1366 x5650 or E5645 hexcore CPUs

3 dual socket Intel LGA2011 E5-2670 eight core CPUs

7 single socket Intel LGA2011 E5-1650 or E5-1650V2 or i7-3930kHexcore CPUs
Five of those are replacing the LGA1366 x5660 I have/had.

2 single LGA1366 x5660 hexcore CPUs
Still in use but being shut down and sold off with the others I shut down

1 Intel i5-4570 quad core Haswell

1 Intel i5-3570 quad socket Ivybridge

1 quad socket F AMD with 4 hexcore Opteron 8439

1quad socket G34 AMD with 4 twelve core Opteron 6174

1 dual socket AMD G34 AMD with 2 twelve core Opteron 6172
1 still in the box, one bank of ram does not work, but it could be used
one CPU would have to access the other CPUs ram. I do not use it.
Was a RMA they told me to keep, they replaced it with the one in use

I plan on selling off all my LGA1366 x58 soon. I have a little bit too many systems than I need to keep the house warm. I can't run everything at once.
Most everything was bought used for pennies on the dollar, bought over years
of folding and crunching.
Many of them run on tables with out bring in a case.
Once set up I pull the monitor off and access them through the network.
I heat my house with the computers, hardly buy any fuel oil anymore.
Fall, Winter and Spring is when I get to run them. it gets quite cold here sometimes.
One dual LGA2011 crunches in the basement and a hexcore 4930k my main rig upstairs in the Summer. Just too much cost to run computers with the A/C on.

Re: Yada Yada Yada

biggrin Thanx for the info, I will be looking for about 20,000 boinc points(140,000) wcg daily. Rig will be all new, all my units are to old to transfer any parts. crying One nice thing it will probably use less power than the old rigs I pay 10 cents per kw I usually don't worry about monthly cost year round as my monthly out lay is 250.00 every month. at the end (around march they send me a check for what I don't use, usually about 5 to 6 hundred dollars) so that is seed money for the next build. cool

Re: Yada Yada Yada

Nice farm Bill, I too, in the past, heated my home during winter with computers biggrin I think that I had 50 dual/quad cores at the time. Power bill was about $600 a month smile

Re: Yada Yada Yada

I got to say you guys rock. biggrin Do you know that the # 2 team only shows 3 members? confused

Looks like it might be a small super rig. the team has only been at wcg for 3 months and have produced 105 million + points. and we are just barely behind them. As I said above you guys rock. cool
