Partial results?

Hi! I have the BOINC agent installed on my laptop (which I also use to stream Hulu to my TV all the time). Since I'm either on battery power or using most of my processor I have my settings so it only runs when plugged in and uses 5% of processor max.

I keep getting projects that will take 6 hours, but they only run for about 1 hour before they expire. Are these partial results being sent back or is the project just dumped? Do I get credit?

Re: Partial results?

No. You are wasting your time.

There are some changes you can make to avoid this problem. First, set your preferences to "Leave applications in memory". This will prevent you from losing progress when you unplug your laptop and computation is suspended.

Secondly, increase the CPU percentage to 60%. This won't interfere with Hulu - other processes will always take precedence over BOINC. The only reason we suggest 60% rather than 100% is to avoid overheating your laptop (laptops can survive a lot more heat, but they get too hot to touch sometimes, and that is bad).

With these options, you should be able to easily complete work by the deadline.
