Every time I read another story about some country raising the quota on the number of whales they will "slaughter" this year I think back to the "agent" talking to the seated and bound Morpheus.
----------------------------------------"I have finally figured out what you humans really are - viruses." There is just something that seems to me to be so very, very wrong with this. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 19, 2005 1:10:41 AM] |

There is just something that seems to me to be so very, very wrong with this. ![]() Julied; I’m no vegetarian but even I am a little displeased and concerned with the current turn of events. I understand that a large part of this is cultural and believe to a degree that there is something almost conjoining between the hunter and the hunted. This said I see nothing personally, culturally or nationally beneficial from the commercial form of hunting that is taking place. We are so arrogant that we believe we are the apex of the life forms on this planet. It may be true, but that does not mean that some whales and their close kin are far behind us. Sad will be the day when the last leviathan is gone from our oceans, on that day mankind will see its very own end, wrought by none but itself. Paws |

We are so arrogant that we believe we are the apex of the life forms on this planet. Paws And patently absurd at that, Paws. It is very sobering to realize that were mankind to pass into extinction that there would not be one living species (had they the capacity) that could possibly bemoan our passing. ![]() To the contrary, except for some individual household pets, what a day of worldwide joyous celebration it would be. Cognition without a corresponding sense of intimate identification with all living things is a treacherous gift. As to my own four-legged companions, I have an engraved stone that sits prominently at the base of a solitary Japanese maple in the backyard that sums it all up. "May I always be the person my dog THINKS I am." I marvel at how much effort it takes for me to achieve what comes so naturally to them. Enough, already! Time to go play with your buddies, Paws. So, what is the ultimate truth? A big messy puddle of drool. ![]() |
