Interesting information about Dengue in Brazil

Hi there,

Some news about the latesy Dengue developments in Brazil.

As you might be aware, back in 2008 we had a serious Dengue outbreak in Rio that nearly collapsed our healthcare system.

Now, in 2009, we had only nearly 1000 cases until end of February, and by the same time in 2008 we had 27 thousand cases. However, it seems that this reduction happened only due to the fact that the majority of the population that lives on infected areas have had dengue already, and no new subtypes of the disease have been introduced so far.

Re: Interesting information about Dengue in Brazil

That's good news even though so many people had to get sick to build some immunity in the population. Hopefully our WCG crunching will lead to a more benign method of cure. Thanks for the update...smile

Re: Interesting information about Dengue in Brazil

Good new due the decrease of Dengue cases, but very bad news that in a wonderfull country like Brazil we need sofer consequences of a lot of mistakes from sucessives governments, and a lot of misinformation of people that living in risks areas (by now, almost all important areas of Brazil are completelly contaminated with Dengue virus, so bad !).

Dengue is a kind of disease that could be avoided a lot if profilatic cares are taken by communities, people and mainly governements. At least could eliminated a lot of vectors and risk situations of epidemics growth year after year, and really take the control of situation.

But governements are made by politics, and poor efforts are made from those guys in last years to really erradicate this disease from Brazil.

Hope that efforts from sciences like this in WCG could provide some light at end of tunel with medicines to remediate the disease in next years... coffee
