Boinc creator David P. Anderson on FLOSS Weekly with Leo Laporte

On a side note;

The creator of BOINC Dr. David P. Anderson appeared on the most recent episode of FLOSS Weekly with Leo Laporte and Randal Schwarz http://twit.tv/floss60

Quite an interesting interview.

What struck me the most was how highly David talked about GPU Computing.
I know this topic has been mentioned often in the forums and is a bit controversial.

But the creator of Boinc praising the technology so much makes me think GPU computing is the way of the future, especially for many BOINC Projects, of course not all projects, it depends on the application.

Also interesting the performance of GPUs is according to him 20-100 times faster than a CPU.
And this performance gap will increase in the future, as CPU performance doubles every 18 month, while GPU performance doubles about every 8 month.

Have fun listening :-)

No, his funding depends on him talking it up.

Sadly.

I have one app that actually offloads and uses the GPU to do allot of image crunching and the vans go absolute bananas. Not going to happen on my quad cruncher anytime soon, probably when the CPU and GPU get integrated.
