I saw yesterday's project announcement this morning when I popped by. I then checked BOINC to see how many units I'd already picked up and found there were none. I headed over to "My Grid" and selected the profile and was surprised to find that though the auto-opt-in checkbox was ticked I hadn't actually been opted into this project when it was added to "My Grid".
I manually updated the settings by ticking the checkbox for HFCC and saving it, then I asked BOINC to call for work units and I picked one up. So it wasn't because Linux WU's hadn't been prepared yet that the opt-in didn't work. If there's a friendly tech or CA passing could they mention this to someone to get the HFCC settings checked and updated for auto-opt-ins. Thanks |

Hi,
----------------------------------------When the box was ticked to be opted in for new project on a certain profile, it should have populated the HFCC box. I just checked the My Projects, and sure enough that field was populated, with the "new projects" box ticked. So, we'll check with the techs. Can you tell which profile it was... home, work, default, school, My Projects, where the HFCC was not activated? cheers

Work, and with a custom profile if that would make any difference.

Hi,
You mention you checked yesterday morning. The moment you did this check is relevant information. I read in some other thread that processing the opt-in was a batch process that took quite some time to process all users, meaning that if you checked too early you might not have been opted-in because the script had not reached your user yet. At Mar 13, 2009 8:10:49 PM GMT Kevin wrote: If you had the "opt me in to new projects" ticked, it will be. The script takes a while to populate all member profiles, last time it took quite some time. We have finished updating member profiles. All users who have opted to receive work from new projects will be able to receive work for Help Fight Childhood Cancer now. Meaning if you checked before that time there seems to be a logical explanation, otherwise something might have gone wrong. |

_Sunnboy_, it's Pi day today... the 14th... his "This morning". IMHO it should have done the job. The techs will look in later.

LOL, I sometimes forget that this is the World community grid and timezones and languages can confuse the meanings of things. I'll try to be clearer next time.
To be clear I discovered this problem about one hour ago relating to a project launched around a day earlier. |

In case it helps, I found that whilst I showed as 'opted in', I had to de-select the project, save, re-select the project and save again before I got sent any work. This is on the default (my only) profile.
It would seem that the boxes on profiles are being checked by the automatic opt-in but wherever the server checks isn't being updated.... |

That may have been coincidence, MacDitch. You don't say what the project selections were, but new projects are generally having a low weight in distribution. If you thus had e.g. FAAH/HPF2/HCC and auto-opted for HFCC, the chance of getting latter immediately is smallish. At least I've seen now a few reports and seen on my own My Project, that the HFCC was automatically populated. Don't how the population script responds to people having jumped in during the script run.
----------------------------------------If we learn of a member name and what profile (work/home/school/default/My project) had the auto-opt ticked yet the HFCC box staying blank, the techs can take that. Off course, they could run an analysis of members who have auto-opt activated and run a compare to see if any member profile was ignored.

I've seen another report of the opt-in not ticking the box in the HFCC badges thread.
gretchch - [Mar 14, 2009 2:42:11 PM] I wondered why I wasn't getting any HFCC workunits. If I look at 'My Projects', HFCC is checked (I have 'opt in' checked). But I have individual profiles for my machines, and if I look at those profiles under 'Device Manager", HFCC is NOT checked. It was my understanding that the 'opt in' function would opt new projects into the individual profiles as well. I have manually checked this project in all my device profiles, so I hope to start getting some soon. |
