Can anyone explain how these two systems work? I seem to have different numbers of ummm points on one system and I think credits on the other. I am confused. The two places I am looking are the WCG.org MyGrid page and the boincstats.com page after searching for my username

In its statistics pages WCG is still using UD points which were the unit used by the old UD agent used by WCG when it started.
----------------------------------------When the Boinc agent has been developed it used a different measurement, credits. When WCG has started to use the Boinc agent together with the UD agent credits have been converted to UD points by multiplying them by 7. Credits is what you see in the Boinc agent in your machine and in your Results Status page. In this page when a result is granted 100 credits it will add 700 points to your total. BoincStats is a site which collects statistics from the various grids which use the Boinc agent, therefore it is showing credits. For WCG it is currently showing only credits earned via the Boinc agent. Points earned by older WCG members via the UD agent are ignored there. For a recent WCG member like you the relationship between your stats in WCG and your stats in BoincStats is simply a factor of 7. Your 581,949 WCG points are equivalent to 83,135.57 credits in BoincStats which is about what is shown for you in BoincStats while I am typing. Differences should be small and are caused by different update schedules. For older members which have used the UD agent in the past this simple relationship does not work because BoincStats does not know about the UD points. Sometime in the coming weeks or months WCG will convert all its points statistics to credits by dividing them by 7 (but it is less simple than it seems when writing it this way) and will then communicate the result to sites like BoincStats. Thenafter numbers will be the same on both sides. Cheers. Jean. |

Thanks that makes sense now. I also noticed that Boincstats doesn't correctly report the position that your in in a team. I recently left a NZ team to join up with a much larger Australian team so my points from the NZ team shouldn't count. However it thinks that I am 75th in a team of 500 instead of 450 where I should be as I have started from scratch in the Aussie team.
It is great to see in Boincstats, stats that say if your moving up or down, your place in a team nice graphs etc. Pity they don't quite get it right. Assuming there are other stats engines other than Boincstats what one would you recommend? Mainly to see how I'm moving within a team placing. |

I also noticed that Boincstats doesn't correctly report the position that your in in a team. Right. While BoincStats counts for a team only the credits that you have earned while you are part of that team it uses your total credits for ranking you in the team. One small weakness of a site which does a really good job in general. So much that I don't use any other one when I look outside of WCG, so I am not able to comment on any other one. Cheers. Jean. |

Hi !
----------------------------------------Maybe boincstats has some weaknesses, but you should not forget that boincstats is a free service operated by volunteer(s) ! The quality of service is anyway very high and suitable and the functional scope is really wide. Cheers, Yves |
