Hi everybody,
----------------------------------------after plenty of months waiting for beta WUs, I fetched my first (and once ) one yesterday. The computation ran well and the result is valid .People ! You should not discourage , there is anyway enough "conventional" work to do between two beta-WUs ![]() Cheers, Yves |

I would certainly like to know how to get any of the Betas to my computer to run and to test with. The information on my grid says the Betas take precedence over anything and yet I have received none. Does anyone have any ideas about this? All of my profiles are marked to participate in Betas. It depends on certain things. One important thing is to have more computers (or cores) running WCG, that increases the chance to get Beta's quite a lot. A second thing is the amount of cached work. You can change that in your profile and the best is to set that to a small value (e.g. 0.2 days). Also make sure that the "connect to network" setting is small. |

First, all computers I use run WCG only. Second, the "Connect to network about every" is set to 0.3 days and I did change that to 0.2 days. After all this, I was looking to see where the amount of cached work is set in the profile and I could only see the amount of additional work to cache and that was set to 10 days which I have reduced to 5 days since it did not seem to have any affect. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. |

dkt, if you ever want to get beta tasks, you must set your combined buffer (connection interval + additional work cache) to less than the beta deadline, which is typically 2 days or sometimes less.

I have set the connect to network setting and the cashed extra work both to 0.1 days. So new work is being fetched when the current jobs are over 60% to 70% runtime. This shouldn't be a problem when your computer is always connected to the internet, but if you use a laptop or have periods that your computer is not connected, then it may occur that your computer doesn't have work anymore for a period of time with these settings.

I don't know what you are doing David, but I have had my connect time set to 0.1 and my caching set to 0.5 for over a week. All I have gotten is one Beta for CEP. Everyone else must be gobbling the WUs up before I get a chance. I am one hour away from 8 days. |

There isn't a constant supply of beta work. It's very transient, to say the least.

All I have gotten is one Beta for CEP. ... I am one hour away from 8 days. Hi dkt! For probably a few thousand beta tester candidates you are already a privileged member! Have a look at the Beta Testing stats page Since the beginning of WCG 104,376 WUs have been returned, less than one third of yesterday's total daily number (358,642)! That says all! At this pace a big beta test of 5,000 WUs (many are smaller than that) would need 20 minutes to get distributed. Even assuming that not every member has opted in for beta testing it does not take long before all beta WUs have gone. Cheers. Jean. |
