Hi,
I have a very small box running with linux that is reporting errors. I have a request for a new job every 2 or 3 minutes, so after 40 request the server stops giving jobs. I see, for example: X0000096541003200801311003_ 1-- Status: Error. This is the Result log: <core_client_version>6.2.14</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> process got signal 4 </message> <stderr_txt> </stderr_txt> ]]> it should be related to the low resources of my box (a low power VIA Samuel 2 with 128M RAM and 1G swap space, running Debian Lenny). I have 3 other boxes running boinc, and running from a project manager (gridrepublic). Any hint? Regards, ing. Federico Fuga |

There's not much found on google. Reported at some projects for Mac and Linux. Try a project reset to force a fresh science software download. HCC does fit in 128mb, but what BOINC is allowed to use is printed in the message log. You could also try RICE which is even smaller than HCC.
----------------------------------------6.2.14 is pretty much the latest good version for Linux. You could try going back to the last good 5.10.45. Upgrading to 6.4 or 6.6 I'd not recommend just yet. It's mostly for GPU crunching.

I have reset the project, We'll see if it works tomorrow, now the server refuses to give jobs (too much request). I have completed a Rice job (R00318_c0c218bf67358bb6a26e05dbb77a9065_03_008) succefully, and now rosetta and enigma@home works fine. Only HCC do not works (Human Proteome is too big). The problem started with 5.10.45, now I have done an upgrade and the program persist. I didn't think to reset the projects (other worked fine). We'll see tomorrow.Thank you ing. Federico Fuga |

6.2.14 is pretty much the latest good version for Linux. The version supported by WCG is 6.2.15 which works the same as 6.2.14 as far as I could see, except that the benchmark of 6.2.14 was exaggerately optimistic on the integer side. 6.2.14 is currently the version distributed with Ubuntu 8.10 (at least in the 64-bit version). One major difference I have experienced when upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 + Boinc 5.10.45 to Ubuntu 8.10 + Boinc 6.2.14/15 is that HCC started to page fault again at a tremendous rate (about 125,000 pf/s per task on a Q6600) with the associated performance decrease (average WU duration from 2.80 hours to 3.20). I don't know though if that regression is due to the change of Ubuntu or to the change of Boinc levels)?... Cheers. Jean. |

No changes, still having the same problem. I have stopped that box to asking works from WCG. Other hints? Thank you. ing. Federico Fuga |

Sorry about that, but we're still interested to learn if RICE does so too in order to understand if it just HCC. I've got one box that refuses to run RICE, except under 5.10.45, so that's what that device is running.

If you're using the Ubuntu supplied Boinc clients, you may wish to switch to the client here. http://www.getdeb.net/app/Boinc I suspect this one will work better for you. |

We don't recommend that version of BOINC.

Ok, I connected that box to WCG directly instead of through the account manager and select only RICE. Tomorrow we'll see if that works (RICE worked one time with 5.x), when server will reset the quota. Thank you |
