Hi there
----------------------------------------This isn't a problem for me, more of an altruistic request on behalf of someone else with a validation pending... I cranked up an old PC with Windows on it to use as a cruncher. After some issues, I managed to get it up and running and got BOINC going which downloaded a single solitary WU (single core P3 with next to no work buffer). After a few hours of crunching, the OS suffered an problem from which I could not restore or recover. In the end, I stuck Linux on it yesterday and it's being running happily crunching a new WU ever since. The trouble is that the WU it was sent under Windows is dead and gone. It still has a week before the reporting deadline and there's some poor cruncher out there with a validation pending on the other replicant who is going to be stuck with it for this time. Is there any way I can report a WU that won't be reporting and it can be cancelled early and a new one sent out? As I said, it's not a problem to me, but I feel bad for the other person who is going to have a delay at the hands of my stupid old machine. Here is the WU: X0000098561295200804031556_ 1-- OLD-CRUNCHER In Progress 02/03/09 13:39:17 11/03/09 13:39:17 0.00 0.0 / 0.0 ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by gordoma at Mar 4, 2009 2:26:34 PM] |

Although your concern for your fellow crunchers is probably greatly appreciated by the WCG team, it's just going to have to sit there for the week. This is why there are the deadlines. I've been hit by that a few times as well where I sent in my WU but the other person never reported back. Once the deadline was reached it sent out another one and eventually was validated.
If the WCG team micromanaged us that much then they would never have anytime to get new projects up and running or fix other issues. |

Set "No new work" and to a project reset prior to uninstalling is the best housekeeping volunteers can do.
----------------------------------------Work will get expired due to "no reply" and it is factored into the deadlines etc.

I thought this might be the case. Thanks for your response... I didn't think it would hurt to ask.
----------------------------------------If anyone is waiting for cancer WU "X0000098561295200804031556_ 0--" to be validated... Sorry - It's going to be 11th March at the earliest. |
