350 years ago, 29th May was designated Royal Oak Day by Act of Parliament. It commemorates the return of Charles II and restoration of England’s Monarchy.

Re: Re:

I can do picnic in parka as well as any Brit
- alone

Oh, for a moment I was afraid Royal Oak day dealt with oaks
- because in Denmark we have oaks ready for harvesting
- they were seedlings after Admiral Horatio Nelson took our fleet:
De tog vores flåde! - They Took Our Fleet!
They took our fleet!
On September 7, 1807, the Danish army surrendered and the English took the Danish fleet anchored at Holmen.
It had to be readied before being able to sail. Thusly, it never was a threat to the English army.
On October 21, 1807 the English army went off with 69 Danish vessels large and small
- the entire Danish navy.
That meant that Denmark participated in the Napoleonic Wars on France's side.
In the years after 1807 large efforts were made to rebuild the navy.
The Admiralty decided thal all oaks in the Royal Forests should be protected
and that there should be planted oaks for the new navy.
************************
Those oaks are tall and proud now, ready for use in building frigates ....

Re: Re:

BARCELONA
Such is the trivia sparseness of news this week.
I understand the pleasure of rival football club supporters at the result That I'm not in anyway shape or form bothered about. These grown men being so obsessed with the "Sport" Wearing full team kit & tears at bedtime when the team break a fingernail .
Get your self a Shed and develop a proper man interest Involving You not following some over paid Prima Donnas .Football Sport? Bah Humbug!!!

Neither am I particularly interested in , Will she? Wont she?
did she spend days in her hotel eating Digestive Biccys. Will she get £1.4 million pay off. Its a Canny question and I dont have the answer Pet devilish

Re: Re:

Evening all

Sunny and windy here so a good day for a towels wash.

Watched the Monaco GP on the box which always works well on television because you get to see close ups pretty well all round the circuit.

Now looking forward to roast lamb for dinner.
