Re: .

Morning all.
Rates arrived yesterday, same as last year but we are going to get less in return!
Doesn't matter who we vote for, its always the crooks that get in, as Den found out at the petrol pumps.

Re: .

Hi all a decent two way trip great red skies coming back, due West into a setting sun interesting cloud shapes dark in silhouette
****************
Needed to top up the tank near Stalingbourgh not wanting to pay motorway prices diesel was 1.42 ltr about 7 pence more than I paid on the 8th Gawd knows what the "M Way Services" were charging sad
++++++++++++++++
The M62 is the east west motorway. Its quite hard get across country the road makers in years gone by thought we all wanted to only travel north south To get across today I had to set off heading south on the M6 passing Salford , Manchester,Bradford, Leeds & Halifax the Trent valley with several large coal fired Power stations The cooling towers steaming away .The motorway is also notable for Stott Hall Farm, a farm in the Pennines situated between the carriageways, it must be a Horrible place to live with the continuous noise the farm house ia couple of hundred yards from either carriageway due to the geology of the surrounding area. The farm has become one of the most well known sights as well as nearby Stotts reservoir. The road crosses the Pennines. Its highest point on Windy Hill near Saddleworth Moor is the highest point of any motorway in the United Kingdom, at 1,221 feet (372 m) above sea level. Saddleworth is also infamous for Brady and Hindely's evil deeds the victims ended up buried on the moor somewhere.
Today It was pleasantly wild and spring like in winter its a grim cold windy place .

So that was my day how was yours? smile
OBTW the gritting wagons were operating on the way back across guess it aint quite spring yet

Re: .

Morning all...... cold but sunny cool

Den ...
Your graphic discription of your journey east to west and return, reminded me of the regular journeys I used to make along the M6 from Northampton to Dumfries, to Dell computers, and return.
Delightful in the summer but come the winter......... and this journey had to be made in a day!! worst of the journey was from Penrith this part of the journey always seemed the longest!!, I'd rest at the excellant transport cafe at Penrith (assuming it's still there?) a bacon buttie and cup of rosy lee before continuing the journey. perhaps one day I'll leisurely retake the journey just to take in the scenery!.
On another note, I have also done the 'ring' M1, M62, M6, M1, again unfortunately missing most of the scenery because of work commitment!. sad
Now I'm retired I go about as far as the local Shopping center and thats enough for me biggrin

Have a restful day all ... rose good luck

Old Sage wink

Re: .

Evening all

Ah, the dear old M62, I can't bear to remember the number of times I crossed on it when living in Bebington and then, as well as work, Daughter No 1 spent five years in Leeds and Daughter No 2 went to Bradford and still lives there.

It's now about 10 years since I drove up the M1 and decided that driving was no longer any sort of pleasure and so gave up the car and, not needing one in London, use a cab when required. It also makes sure I do a fair amount of walking which must be good for me, old so and so that I am.

Re: .

Good moaning all .....
Very foggy here this am, the weather also............ smile

The tragedy in Japan seems to go on and on, how much more can befall them? I learn this morning that another reactor has started to 'melt down' and the residence of nearby towns are having to move out as there is a danger of radiation being released into the atmosphere.
Is it that once the rods are in place they cannot be removed? if so I question whether any nuclear plant is safe and should such a volatile and dangerous substance be used at all!!?

Have a safe warm day ........
