Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Hi all, Still crunching. Just a quick update to let you know:
  • that I'm attempting to hit the 1 Million Points mark by January 1st (as recorded by boincstats, its current predicion is January 3rd so I need to see if I can poke a few more results in fast.)
  • For a long time I've felt a bit of a fraud on here, that everyones talked about friends and loved one's who've suffered from cancer and other illnesses that we're tackling - and I havn't. Because I didn't have anyone in that situation, and I was lucky. Well, a few weeks ago, my Uncle nearly died from Leukaemia, and I'll admit I really knew nothing about that illness until it happened, and now it looks like he might be 'ok' (that is of course better then the alternative). And It gives me some hope that actually, other people pumping data into WCG and related in the past might have helped him, and so this might help people in the future. So I want to thank all of you who've been crunching longer then I have, and all of you who havn't, because every big, and every little, helps.
  • Its cold in naarfolk.

Thats it for now,
A Very Grateful Daddymoo.

applause Nice one Daddymoo, good luck with your target.

Old Sage

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

still basking in boiler warmth

its blooming well hissing down and has done all day

feel a bit sad
having been brought up without the comfort of central heating
just the cast iron range in the kitchen the centre of the house
6 days a week
only once a week was there a fire in the front room
the bedrooms did have fire places but you only got a fire in them if you were dying from some weird ailment

Any way I lived through those times

and am getting soft in my dotage

Re: THE EDWARDIANS - WHY NOT JOIN US AS THE QUEST CONTINUES -

Evening all

As we all are Den.

I had the same, as we had one room really which was the living, dining room and kitchen all in one with, for much of the time, an oil lamp and a copper in the scullery for the weekly wash and then the weekly bath.
A hot iron in old socks was the bedroom warmer in the winter.

Now, I have to have a sweater on even with the central heating going. Still, with a 170 year old cottage - no such thing as cavity walls and compulsory wooden sash windows which would have to be specially made to be double glazed and cost a fortune - it's not surprising that the heat loss is something I have to put up with.

But, I love it here so what the heck*!
