still basking in boiler warmth
----------------------------------------its blooming well hissing down and has done all day feel a bit sad having been brought up without the comfort of central heating just the cast iron range in the kitchen the centre of the house 6 days a week only once a week was there a fire in the front room the bedrooms did have fire places but you only got a fire in them if you were dying from some weird ailment Any way I lived through those times and am getting soft in my dotage |

Evening all
----------------------------------------As we all are Den. I had the same, as we had one room really which was the living, dining room and kitchen all in one with, for much of the time, an oil lamp and a copper in the scullery for the weekly wash and then the weekly bath. A hot iron in old socks was the bedroom warmer in the winter. Now, I have to have a sweater on even with the central heating going. Still, with a 170 year old cottage - no such thing as cavity walls and compulsory wooden sash windows which would have to be specially made to be double glazed and cost a fortune - it's not surprising that the heat loss is something I have to put up with. But, I love it here so what the heck*! *edited to appropriate forum language - ErikaT [Edit 1 times, last edit by ErikaT at Nov 17, 2010 11:04:22 PM] |
