hmm tv...even though it's on for the news about every day, the belgian television has made 2 series this season that I would be interested in watching and had succeeded to program both on monday evening, in the middle of my arabic class...so I've managed to miss even those :)
(and by only 2 interesting things I discount everything that it buys from the beeb, that is usually very cool but since my dad has recorded nearly everything the bbc has ever made I have no chance of missing these :D) |

Evening all
Early sunshine disappeared during the afternoon but it has been notably milder than of late so I have no complaints. I wonder how many people will be going to church tomorrow to celebrate Mothering Sunday rather than having been conned by the commercial aspect the supermarkets use to get a little more sales going. I remember just once going when I was a child and, at the appropriate moment, we had to walk up toward the altar and collect a small posy of violets which we then took back to give to our Mothers. Not that the origin of the festival had anything to do with one's actual mother. It was, in fact, a short holiday for the workers so that families could be together for a weekend in the place where their Mother Church was and so celebrate together. It seems impossible today to have a simple celebration of anything meaningful. Having said that, I am very fond of our couple of women who run our local flower shop so am quite happy if they have a successful weekend. And, I will remember with fondness my own mother who was never happy unless she was doing something useful. I remember getting up on a Monday morning and finding that the washing was already on the line. And, like many others, was a great knitter. My fondest memory of this is finding her unraveling an existing sweater to knit again because she had run out of new projects. |

Well I will for one, but not particularly to celebrate Mothering Sunday; I go to church every Sunday morning! After that though, I will be picking up my son-in-laws parents and we will all be going over to his 'place' where my daughter will be cooking us all lunch for Mother's day! Good eh? I expect there is a strong possibility that I might get to see my grandchildren too as they should be arriving to see their Mother - so all being well there will be three generations! Best of all I get to see my darling little 'Alfie' - their dog!!! ![]() |
