![]() My what busy people you have been these last few days ........... I have just spent the weekend with my dearest comrades the members of the former Northamptonshire Regiment, Although we have not been in contact or seen one-another for many years the friendship that welded us together in our service to our Country is as strong now, if not stronger, as was then, we were not all hero's but each did our bit. It was a weekend tinged with sadness that a Great Regiment is no more as a new Regiment now takes over. A contingent of the 'New' regiment came over from Afghanistan and lead the 'Old Boys' the 'STEEL BACKS' on our parade to a Civic reception. I was humbled by the wonderful reception and applause from the public that lined our route, as many as 6 deep, cheering and waving our national flag. We were greeted by our former colonel in chief (Princess Alice) son, The Duke of Gloucester, and he inspected the parade speaking to each and everyone of us, many of us are now old and have the inevitable problems that come with age, however all stood tall and proud as the Colours were paraded for the last time. A poignant feature of the parade was the fact that it was held on the 200th anniversary of The Battle Of Talavera (28th July 1809) The 48th of Foot, They were all fine soldiers and we salute and honour them to a man. I am not a lover of war, war is mans failing, indeed I believe it is the lack of compassion and understanding of each others needs and beliefs that cause so much unrest in this wonderful world. We do not own this world of ours, it is but loaned to us for the short period of our lives, what we do to it during our short term has an effect on all future generations, I wonder if they will look back on us with affection or condemn us. I am sure in my heart that if they see the good that people like you are doing in helping in maybe a small but significant way, others around you, that they will honour our memory as I have honoured my comrades this weekend. May your God Bless you and keep you Old Sage |

Blue skies now after a dreadful morning so I fed the birds and then watched a film on my computer. |

WoW, Evy up to THREE Posts!
Seriously though it has been a long day, with plenty to do in the garden, neighbours invited me over the fence for a beer, and that was the end of gardening! On Wednesday I have to go for my annual check up at the heart clinic, lets hope I get the all clear again for another year! |
