Re: How to use BOINC Cross Project ID?

Think your problem is most likely related to a client that is not attached to multiple active projects.

The client does not generate the critical CPID, nor has any relation whatsoever to the nick. It's the email address entered at each project that generates it there, the client merely finding the oldest amongst the projects it's attached to.

only WCG

the problem is that i have several computers in several places and i have no physical access to them.

ps: yes i've read all

ps2: why when this rare client connects to the server, it does not get and cache new CPID ?

well, i think all this stuff will end when i reinstall boincs everywhere

Re: How to use BOINC Cross Project ID?

That client only gets the one CPID from WCG thus has nothing to compare it against to determine the oldest one. Why don't you just attach it to a second/third active project of yours? Run manually an update against each project, whilst having the fetch work set to No.

Re: How to use BOINC Cross Project ID?

Hi again, rilian.

As I said earlier, the actual mechanism is fiendishly complicated, both in concept and in execution.

The rule is this: your CPID is only guaranteed to be stable if you have at least one host attached to ALL your projects. Otherwise, you can get a situation where your CPID ping-pongs between values from different hosts, based on different "oldest projects".

This bug was reported to BOINC two years ago (!), and as far as I know has never been fixed.

This will require a few changes: a CPID timestamp field in the database, which must be passed in the scheduler request and response, so that the server can compare the age of the provided CPID against the age of the stored CPID.

yeah, you suggested a good solution. too bad it has minor priority

i guess this topic may get [resolved] ?
