The distribution for a bad unit is automatically stopped at 7 returned results ending in error. Then is gets passed to a report where these results are excluded for investigation.
----------------------------------------Do not see any OS/CPU reporting. This projects once HAD a problem specific to Vista. Certainly don't like jobs running the full length and still get an error report. 1) What does the result log say when clicking the "Error" link on the result status page? 2) Is there any event in the client message log for any moment during the run time of these jobs? Those are the things we like the know for diagnostics.

Those are the things we like the know for diagnostics. The machine is an Intel P4 3.0GHz (not overclocked) with Windows XP Home SP3 and running BOINC 6.2.28 (WCG edition). I believe it has never returned any error results for the RICE project previously, both before and after the datacentre move. As for your questions 1) and 2)... the logs are similar to what Leon410 said, there are no special messages indicating there was an error (it has "called boinc_finish" at the end of the result log anyways). Edit: More info: the machine returned a valid WU (R00312_fbc0b36ae440c8756f463f8e09e9567d_03 (all copies of the WU got valid status)) a week before the returning of the errored out WU (R00312_87f83e44f63bc6b2e9647d870597159a_01). Both the valid and error WUs are in the same batch (R00312). Edit 2: And from what Leon410 quoted above, it seems that the distribution doesn't stop even after getting 7 errored out results. Both machines use boinc 5.10.45 as do not want to use 6xx for now. The credits granted for both machines on the last few units have been normal for all other projects but have varied wildly on rice .on this machine for instanse would have expected around 160 180 but have had a 200 and 113 credits. This is reminisant of the very early days of the project t,hey are not being validated properly. I read recently that only about 3% of crunchers ever visit forums So it is a shame that when one does, to report a fault that may involve thousands of hours of wasted cpu hours the post is not even acknowledged! I am now starting to get some errors on this project, and both of these ran over 10 hours. I wonder if there is a new problem with the work units.

Just Heads up from knreed after asking. The reply was:

It is not a large scale issue, but some of the result files contain some binary garbage in them which causes them to be marked as errors. We are looking into it, but it is occurring at a pretty low rate so I don't know if we will find anything. Check you AV logs. I've had enough trouble getting NRW to run on Vista/Quad and on my XP laptop they refuse to run properly unless I use the 5.10.45 install. The last 15 I returned were in good order and detail shows no error results for anyone.
