Why are these considered errors?

Sorry if this is a simple question which has been answered 100 times already, but I'm curious why these two Work Units are flagged as Error.

First up is mo875_00065. My detail says:
mo875_ 00065_ 11-- Error 1/8/09 21:29:45 1/10/09 04:15:33 16.30 130.9 / 0.0

It took a while to run, but it's on an old XP 1800+. The claimed credit falls within the range of other valid work 74.8 - 154.1. (Awarded credit was 107.5.) It was returned before other WUs which were awarded credit. The result log only says:
<core_client_version>5.4.11</core_client_version>
<stderr_txt>
called boinc_finish
</stderr_txt>

Next up is mo757_00060. My detail says:
mo757_ 00060_ 17-- Error 1/8/09 12:15:56 1/8/09 20:33:32 6.60 85.2 / 0.0

This is on a C2D @ 2.4. The claimed credit falls within the range of other valid work 83.0 - 127.7. (Awarded credit was 104.1.) It was also returned before other WUs which were awarded credit. Again, the result log only says:
<core_client_version>6.2.19</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
called boinc_finish

</stderr_txt>
]]>

I guess I'm confused because this log file looks exactly the same as the log of a Valid WU. I don't want to submit bad work, but I also want to know why work I'm submitting would be considered bad.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Why are these considered errors?

If you have some time to dedicate to investigations you might look in your message log (if you have not restarted Boinc since these dates), or in the files stdoutdae.txt or stdoutdae.old in your Boinc Data directory to find if an error message was issued just before they finished.

Indeed, it is strange that their status logs do not say more.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Why are these considered errors?

Thanks for that idea. I looked through my .txt files and didn't find any error messages during the crunching, just the basic "Started task...", "Computation finished...", "Started upload...", "Finished upload..." messages.

One thing I did notice, both of these were returned around the time of the move. They both have the message "resent lost result..." I wonder if that's related somehow. Fortunately I have other WUs which have that message and were validated. mo805_ 00020_ 11 for example.

Re: Why are these considered errors?

Interesting info. I don't know how many result files are returned for a HPF2 WU, but if it is more than one it is possible that one of these files has not uploaded successfully and then your WU is declared in error although it had finished successfully (hence no error message in its log).

If somebody could confirm how many files are normally returned for a HPF2 WU that might help understanding this problem.

Cheers. Jean.

My last accepted work for this project was on Jan 13, since then, all are in error (some 6 or 7). There clearly something is going berserk with this project. An analog problem occured in 2005, see some messages below.

Re: Why are these considered errors?

Hi!

Since yesterday I also get al lot of errors on the HPF2 and FA@H projects. The strange thing is that the WU's are being sent in the first and second week of January and that they are returned yesterday and today. The boxes I use are working 24 hours a day, so almost all WU's are returned within a day.
I'm talking about 95 errors in two days. sad
Can this have to do with the move of the WCG platform?
Especially around that time I checked if everything went well with uploading and I've never seen these WU's waiting for upload for 1 week or so.
I would appreciate it if somebody can take a look at these errors.
Regards,

Harreld

Re: Why are these considered errors?

See other thread discussion with 123bob. I've had it and remedied it, by pure coincidence, making a change to the security setting. It only effected HPF2 on yes, VISTA.
