confused Installing in 2 Accounts in Vista

Hi All,

Tried to search but cant get this to work.

Have a new computer with two user accounts: an admin one(call it "Admin") and one normal level user account(lets call it "PC" account).

Ive installed WCG/Boinc as a service. In the admin account it runs fine(its performing calcs, returning results etc.).

In the normal user account however it doesn't. Its loaded in the tray but it has a red 'X' in the icon - it states "Not connected to client". If I close it, and then start it using "...run as admininstrator" it loads fine. How can I get it to load normally on this user-level account?

Hope Ive explained it ok & many thanks in advance for any help.

Best regards,

Cian

Don't assume that because the manager isn't connecting to the project that it isn't crunching. Check your Task Manager and see where your CPU% is at. More than likely, your computer is working. Just your de-privileged account isn't being allowed to check it. Could be a firewall thing.

Many thanks Duane, I checked in task manager and it appears to be running! I assumed when I couldnt get into the manager it wasn't running but I suppose thats only for the admin account.

Many thanks for your help! smile

Re: Installing in 2 Accounts in Vista

When you have installed you have not checked the box "Allow all users on this computer to control Boinc".
Personally I think that it is the normal way to install as a service, therefore Boinc runs safely in the background as you defined it, whomever is using your PC. But you have to logon as "Admin" to see what happens. smile

Cheers. Jean.

Jean,

Many thanks for your help! Hopefully WCG & the other Boinc projects will benefit from processing power that would have been wasted.

Thanks for your reply!
