So,
----------------------------------------my daily counting has felt something like 4000h per day. Majority of client has run out their puffers and cannot upload result. Yes I did try reboot hold system, not any help. So three days lost as idle and most result buffered lost also. Atleast ten thousand hours fellows. More than year. In best case. More realistic value is 15 000h. ![]() |

In your earlier report, you implied you had not restarted BOINC on all your computers.
The techs warned about the DNS change and the need for action before the transition. Yes, it's inconvenient. But this is a BOINC flaw, not the fault of World Community Grid. It's just one of those unavoidable things. |

1. How may units I seems to have?
----------------------------------------2. If reseting one takes 10 minutes, then how many days I need to follow your instruction? Edit: 3. How many weeks I need, if I work five hours per day? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Jan 12, 2009 9:23:50 AM] |

I'm deeply sorry, ultimaThule - but if you have more computers than you can manage, then that's a problem I can't help you with.
Perhaps you could write a script to do it for you? |

Hey UT - how are you doing otherwise?
----------------------------------------Even in commercial environments migrations are a serious PITA. Nobody is happy about work being lost although you wouldn't always be able to guess that at first blush. If it's possible, I think the WCG staff will make an effort to give people credit for work that was done. I know they have done so in the past. It just might take a while. I can't speak for them, but maybe in a few days someone could post an announcement about what if any adjustments will be made. Of course that's not much consolation when you're main concern is generating useful data for the projects. I think the sometime cavalier attitude towards these things is borne of misapprehension that people are upset mainly because their points totals have been affected. And while that may be true in some cases, I think that most of the time people are genuinely upset for the reasons that they state. Unfortunately, these days everyone is reluctant to take people at their word. ![]() ![]() |

Bashing mode on. --------------------- Just look at the global stats page... Global Stats Just 800.000-900.000 hours of lost runtime on the migration day alone .Too bad I asked to close my thread: Tech screw up, lost about 200 hours of runtime. Let's unite and claim them! A migration so smooth to get you in the mood Bashing mode off. --------------------- Thanks to the constant growing user base, it was just a hickup. Wow, I'm glad I decided to read this today...I have 100s of expired units sitting there attempting to upload

This was expected.
The site may have been unavailable for a very short period, but DNS changes take time. There may have been a few ways the transition could have gone a little smoother, but I think the techs are very happy with the result. |

I don't know if this will help but I lost a bunch myself and I was away at CES in Las Vegas from the 5th to just a few hours ago so I had no access.
----------------------------------------Yes, it's frustrating but then so is life and this is the real world we live in. We'll reboot the machines, send in the work thats done and if credit is received then it is, if not then we'll be big boys and girls and say a big sheet and get on with it. I always try and put myself in the other guys shoes before I biatch too much and this move was a big one and crap was bound to happen. Let's get back to what we all do best, trying to get these diseases beat so our kids will have better lives.. To the people in charge; Looks to me like you did a pretty good job on this and the big issue was all in the machines needing a boot. As said, that is beyond your control and up to us. Congrats on a job well done! ![]() |
