My WCG BOINC client constantly says "Error: No work available to process". I have all available projects checked on my profile settings, my computer meets the requirements comfortably with 50GB of free space and 1GB of memory. I updated the BOINC client but it still says the same thing. I just noticed this 2 days ago so I can't imagine it's heavy network traffic. Anyone have a suggestion? I have been running work on this machine practically since WCG started.

I guess you can read about the reason here https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=22984

The techs have been winding the workunit buffers down for an impending server migration to Canada. If all projects are checked in My Grid, that's about all you can do.
----------------------------------------Diagnosis of anything else would be difficult until we know that the work has returned. I have one WCG workunit running, but I have not maintained a large extra queue reserve and two other computers don't have any. I am checking on some other BOINC projects this week. Some of those have work and some do not. The computers all have something to work on, just not all WCG. The alternative might have been to raise the queue reserve to save several days worth of work, but it may be too late for that.

The only other thing you may try (although it does not seem logical with all projects selected) is to make sure you have the box "send me work for other projects in case etc...) checked. Everything I have received this evening was in the "other project" category. In that case perhaps it makes more sense if you deselect one of the projects, i.e. HPF2 or FAAH.
---------------------------------------- Still a little more than 3 hours to go before the cut... Cheers. Jean. |

Hello everyone!
----------------------------------------All my WU's are ready to upload, but I only receive these messages (on multiple machines): 09/01/2009 06:31:08|World Community Grid|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed upload of mo882_00002_2_0: http errorIs there an issue with the new environment? (Sorry for posting here, but this question doesn't deserve a topic of it's own)

The big move which has needed an interrupt of about 14 hours was only the most visible and the most annoying part of the work of moving WCG's datacenter. There are now many other tasks to run like monitoring, testing, validating etc... everything, and that will certainly cause some temporary unavailability of the servers, or at least some slower response as I can have on this forum from time to time. You can expect this to last at least until the formal announcement that the move is fully completed, sometime next week.
----------------------------------------Also, on top of that, you must remember that the bare minimum of new WUs were generated over the days preceding the move in order to keep the amount of data to move as low as possible. Now the techs will have to raise the stock of new WUs to its usual level, and this is typically an operation which may freeze servers for short periods when new batches are added to the system. So, be patient and let your Boinc client take care of retrying communications without worrying too much. One thing you can be sure of right now is that there are enough pairs of eyes watching the operations and ready to quickly take necessary measures in case of trouble. Thank you for reporting, and happy crunching. Jean. |
