Tweaking Linux

Since I could not find a forum for linux i have decided to post my questions here. Sorry if there is a place for this but I had a look sad

I Have a ubuntu box running BOINC 24/7 and in its benchmark Whetstone is only getting 1700 mips. Are there any tweaks that I can use to boost its performance? This machine is an AMD 3200+ with 1GB of ddr1 RAM it is clocked to perfection and is currently running at 126% overclock with a cpu core temperature of 38 degrees. All motherboard tweaks are currently in effect. All I need are operating system tweaks.

Re: Tweaking Linux

Hello Nick-MMX,
I can only think of 2 things:
1) By default Ubuntu will use optional power-management routines to underclock when running only low-priority tasks such as BOINC. Your motherboard may not be equipped to do this or you may have tweaked Ubuntu to avoid this. I just mention this as a possibility.

2) Ubuntu 64 runs faster than Ubuntu 32. The difference seems to be in the library support routines for running 32-bit programs on Ubuntu 64.

Re: Tweaking Linux

Kill off unneeded services and start up apps. This includes the GUI for BOINC and the GUI for Ubuntu.
