Clean Energy Project completion time.

I have just completed my first clean energy project and it took
193 hours to finish. The unit download and was valid.
Personally I am not concerned about the time, this is what research
is about. Code writers need to find out if a project will work across the
board and this part of research , in the end it is for the benifit of all.

Many thanks to all the research teams , tech's and crunchers.

so far it was the longest WU time to finished that I read about here among teh forums.

Would be great if you can provide us and post here a little bit more information about your machine enviroment (Hw Sw, overclocking info, etc) and how much of this machine are you dedicating to WCG crunch (60% is default when you download and install Boinc agent).

My longest CEP WU ran for 32 hours, but read about someones with two and almost three times more but I guess that yours mark is a record.

Re: Clean Energy Project completion time.

Hello, I have the same - long workunits now.One of them is runnig 36 hours now and I am in 36 %. I hope that I will be done before deadline smile
I am crunching on Quadcore Intel 9550 @ 3,7 GHz. BOINC benchmark:

Benchmark results:
Number of CPUs: 4
3909 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
7925 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

Re: Clean Energy Project completion time.

Hi pepik.r and Michaelp91,

would be great if you post here what kind of machine are you using.

Example:
Intel Core Extreme 9770 3.2 GHz without overclocking, 4 GB RAM , OS Windows Vista 32 SP1, 4 cores dedicated 100% for WCG. The WU ran for 32 hours without stops (machine was on 24/7). and so on

pepik.r
the original Quad 9550 is clocked at 2,83 GHz , are you overclocking it ?
With this kind of excellent processor (if dedicated 100% to WCG) none CEP WU would pass more than 40 hours being crunched according my benchmarks here. thinking

Re: Clean Energy Project completion time.

Hi Giba,
my Q9550 is overclocked to 3,7 GHz - runnig 100% - not 24/7 but cca 16/day. Other specifications are:
motherboard - Gigabyte ga-ep45-dq6
graphic - ATI 4870x2 (sometimes running Folding@home on it... )
ram - 4 GB
OS Vista 32 SP1

CEP WU was running 36 hours without stop (computer wasnt turned off and restarted too)... and there was 36% done.... Before a while I needed to restart this machine... then I looked to BOINC and there was still 36%, but CPU hours were reseted to 8 hours (and 10 hours remaining)... I dont understand why were CPU hours lower but I am glad that WU is still on 36% and no data were lost....

Re: Clean Energy Project completion time.

Hello pepik.r,
One possibility is that your program may have been caught in a loop. After restarting you may have begun again from the last checkpoint.

Hummm,
according your information, at least you lost about 1 day of computing time to count you on CEP for this WU, once the new time value restarted with just 8 hours. Appear be bad for me I picked one similar and the result was waste once I lost all computation effort and aborted after 41 hours of computing without evolution in my one.

With this monster machine that you reported you probably could complete all CEP WU's available at most in 36 hours of crunch. I bet that no need than it more just based on historic posted here (but could be).

I would like to suggest you take a look at another thread in this forum:

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=22725

and verify if you aren't a lucky one that pick a bad one WU like that I mentioned above that I download. Good lucky and pay attention on evolution of this WU do not waste your effort much more.

Re: Clean Energy Project completion time.

pepik.r,
Please see this FAQ post How long will this new type-A Clean Energy Project (CEP) work unit (WU) last? to see how a type-A CEP WU progresses normally.
According to the information that you provided after restarting yours should not last more than 25 hours. If it is still stuck at 36 % do not hesitate to abort it.

Sorry for the trouble. Jean.
