I have an old box running this as well - I guess I'm a sucker for punishment. This is an old AMD XP 1800+. Normally it sticks with hcc, but since it does meet the memory requirement, it ran a CEP unit. It looked fine, it seemed to steadily chew through the unit and completed in about 3/4 of the estimated completion. I was expecting it to be a success since all the other work coming from this box passes. However, when I checked on it, I found this:
Result Log <core_client_version>5.4.11</core_client_version> <stderr_txt> Calling initGraphics() INFO: No state to restore. Start from the beginning. Calling initGraphics() Calling initGraphics() Calling initGraphics() . . . No heartbeat from core client for 30 sec - exiting Calling initGraphics() [ERROR] Failed to open either source or destination files while copying wcgrestart.rst to ../../projects/ www.worldcommunitygrid.org/E000040_342A_00052p00s_0_3. Error: 2 #### Message = NORMAL STOP called boinc_finish </stderr_txt> Also, here is the quorum information: E000040_ 342A_ 00052p00s_ 0-- Error 12/17/08 23:27:43 12/19/08 06:02:20 23.04 176.1 / 0.0 E000040_ 342A_ 00052p00s_ 1-- Inconclusive 12/17/08 23:27:01 12/18/08 23:02:58 8.11 153.0 / 0.0 Anything I can or should do here? It is an old version of boinc, but it's been a case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." It's just an old box that sits in the corner and I barely give a passing thought to. |

"No Heartbeat" usually means that security software is interfering with the communication of the Science Application with the core client (BOINC.exe) for longer than 30 seconds. If that takes too long, the core client is going to assume the science is non-responsive and will try to kill it. Looking at the log, that's exactly what it has done.
----------------------------------------Old BOINC? BOINC 6.2.28 is more tolerant but check your security logs and give free pass to the science apps and BOINC.exe and BOINC.scr for local host and port 31416 to begin with. The Start Here FAQ's discuss this issue. [Added: With search 3 FAQ's were found touching on the heartbeat topic http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...=&forum=3&rows=20 ]
