Upgrading BOINC client

I am currently running BOINC 5.10 on my W2K3 server as a service. I remember a few months back trying to upgrade to the latest version and it didn't run as a service any longer. What's the latest BOINC agent that WCG uses/recommends?

Re: Upgrading BOINC client

Hello Knightro2,
BOINC 5.10.45 is what I am still running. (I get to listen to all the complaints. It makes me ultra-conservative.) If you go to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do you can try switching to BOINC 6.2.28.

Re: Upgrading BOINC client

Thanks, I'm just wondering if they fixed the issue in 6.2 with the agent not running as a service even though you tell it to. Since this is my server I'm not always logged in.

Re: Upgrading BOINC client

Hello Knightro2,
There are ways to run it as a service, as explained in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12856

Re: Upgrading BOINC client

The question is simply: Is there a point in upgrade the boinc client, if it's works fine?

I run ver 6.2.19 on a intel dual core with Vista and 5.10.45 on a couple of XP client. Should I upgrade?

Certainly not, "if it's not broken, don't fix it..." smile

Re: Upgrading BOINC client

Not immediately evident but there is e.g. a better RPC handling and certainly when I do remote controlling over the LAN the responsiveness is much better with 6.2.28 v 5.10.45
