Dialup autodial script

I'm running BOINC on a dialup system. The alerts from the client are the only indication (besides progress bars) that indicate client network activity required. The Options and Prefs. dialogs don't seem to have an option to initiate an autodial fuction fot the system dialup script. I can only imagine that this would require a batch file written to do this. The system is an i386 running Windows 2000 Pro. If anyone knows of a script that would listen for BOINC complaing about lack of internet access and autodial the dialup to connect and disconnect when the data transfers are complete, I would be grateful. The presumption of dedicated access is increasingly common.

Re: Dialup autodial script

It's not the presumption of dedicated access so much as the ever-increasing download and upload sizes. Several projects, now, are unsuitable for dialup.

As for your situation: you can set the dialup connection to use in the Options dialog. I believe to configure autodialling, you need to change your Internet options in Control Panel.

But I could be all wrong - I haven't used dialup in so very long.

Re: Dialup autodial script

Worked for me last I used it in June on XP. Cant remember if then i was already running on a 6.2 client. In preferences Unticked the Confirm Connect and ticked the Disconnect.

Selected the Dial up that and set that as default in Options.

In addition to our previous advice, there is an item in the help: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSearch.do?searchString=autodial

Reads like old UD agent help. Doesn't harm to find out if this does the trick for hillhopper and keep it from being gutted out of help.

Re: Dialup autodial script

Thanks so far. I did change prefs and Options, as well as the Connection settings in IE which were set to Never Dial. When I originally installed this OS, I didn't want the system dialing unexpectedly when other stuff was running. Now, it's just a matter of getting the dialup script to autodial when BOINC calls for Network access. Unauthorized use of the Internet anyone? I can hear Big Brother now. "All terminal operators must have permission to place expensive phone calls." I'm glad I pay my own phone bill. Thanks and Happy Holidays.
