I find myself having to cancel results between the work units being so large and quick due-dates. If nothing else, can you make the due dates longer?
FYI, I am on a pretty good machine for 'home' use. 2.8 GHz Intel Duo Extreme, 1 TB of disc space (Boinc is set to use the max available to it), and 4 GB of RAM. |

Great, compared to seti@home and einstein@home I wondered at the discrepancy. :)
Hmm ... looking on the linked page about scheduling it looks like you are assuming boinc is running the entire uptime of a computer. I forget the defaults on the client now, but my client is set to not do work while I am using the keyboard/mouse. In fact, I don't remember a way to make it take up less CPU when you are actively using your computer .... it is either running or it is not running. |

What is your main machine set up? I'm looking to reduce WU time by either a quad core or cluster setup. TY phishbonz

I just built an i7 920 ... I am running in HT so I am processing 8 WUs at a time. I can tell you that after running only a couple of days I am returning 50+WUs per day. All WUs almost always process in under 4 hours with the exception of Rice which crunches the amount of time the WU is set to. These are awesome crunchers set ups (and I mean awesome in the true sense of the word)!

asking a proud new papa if he will show pics ... OK no pics (this isn't xtreme systems forum after all) but here are the specs ...
MOBO: Asus P6T CPU: i7 920 HSF: Xigmatek Dark Knight-S1283V RAM: Corsair Dominator 2Gx3 TR3X6G1600C8D GPU: EVGA GTX 295 PSU: Corsair TX750W HD: WD Caviar Black 1 TB CASE: Cool Master HAF 932 Vista Ultimate 64 I got everything at newegg for just under $1800 USD after mail in rebates. These processors are insanely easy to OC and very stable at 3.8 GHz with a minor voltage tweak to 1.33v. I also tightened the memory timings to 7-7-7-21 without any voltage change from Corsair stock rating of 1.65v. I do have have HT turned on and beat the heck out of it with OCCT, Cinebench, and SuperPrime ... all stable. The result is that this box is monster cruncher! No errors on WCG except HPFII but that was the standard know issue for Vista64 so it has nothing to do with the OC. I had not bought a PC in almost 5 years (althought I did get my wife a new lappy for xmas) and after reading the reviews on the i7 I decided I would finally build one instead of buying from Dell again. I used an old DVD R/W, keyboard, mouse and monitor to save a few dollars. I have sinced taken 2 old P3s off the grid as they were not very good at crunching and I still have to pay the electric bill. ![]() |

I'm running a home network composed of many different machines, but I happen to have an Athlon 1800XP with 512MB of RAM and it too takes about 14+ hours to complete a work unit, so as has already been alluded to by others, it sounds like your box is running just fine.

This will make him walk over to his Athlon XP1800 and use a sledgehammer on it!

MM - you kill me !!!
I take it that is the gainsville you been braggin (and rightly so) on lately? OK ... it is my own jealousy I am letting kill me ... 8 physical and 16 logical cores <swoon> I saw your post with the cost estimate for a "good" cruncher ... started trying to figure out how to convince my wife that the i7 just isn't good enough ![]() |
