Re: time to finish

Hi,

the projects average runs about 6:15 hours. A stock quad does 4-4.5 hours. and a C2D is 5.5-6.5 hrs. WCG can't make them longer or shorter as it is 1 target crystal being analyzed per task. The memory requirement is already quite small so your 376mb suffices.

ciao

Hi uccizana,

That runtime for a HCC job on your 1533MHz machine is absolutely normal. Crunch on when this is your favorite project.

If you always want the same runtime, you can consider to join the Nutritious Rice for the World project.
Those jobs always finish with the first checkpoint after 10hours of runtime. So 10 hours and 1, 2 or 3 minutes.

Ciao

Nutritious Rice for the World checkpoints frequently - every few minutes, normally.

Re: time to finish

unfortunatly as computers get faster they make the work units longer for everyone

myself i have 4 computers curently running and not a single one is newer than 2 years old... so yes i am starting to run into simalar problems with some work units...

i dont know if there is a solution ...

hope you keep crunching and hope if you decide to go to another project that you at least keep useing your free time for Distributed computing.

right now my computers are all running the CEP project on WCG... there are some long runers 29hrs + but most the ones i have gotten recently on my computers are avaraging about 10 hours...

i would sugest Rice but they are limiting the work on that project right now do to the hardrive space at the reserchers ...

happy crunching and crunch on

Re: time to finish

knreed recently posted that the old server disk drives are getting filled up. By playing with the project allocations and work unit lengths he was able to get free disk space up from 10% to 13%. Once we move to the new server farm, he will be able to send out shorter work units without worrying about free space.

Re: time to finish

sounds great personaly i love work units that are less than 5 hours... lets me see that work is gettin done...

it also alows me to be runing multiple projects and not worry about missing a deadline (boinc is good at keeping them in time) but when boinc dose this it shifts my % of each project

anything under 12 hours i normaly consider fine.. anything longer than 48 i normaly consider excessive and makes me worry about the unit failing and wasteing 48+ hours....

happy crunching

Re: time to finish

My main machine does four work units in 2.5hrs, but my other machines take right at 3hrs for four work units (quad core).

Re: time to finish

The feeling of having much work done, is always good....

Large WU's are rewarding regarding the points , but they take forever to complete...

Everyone likes a snack... I like multiple wu's a day...

I'm hungry... let's eat&crunch..
