Hello,
I have been using the software for a long time now. I have now tried to convince people at my new school to set it up. The school is running a Firewall and we opened the ports. Everything works fine for Windows. But I myself and some other here are using macs. We are applying the same settings as on the windows machines but We get the following message constantly Mi 10 Dez 13:46:17 2008||Starting BOINC client version 6.2.18 for x86_64-apple-darwin Mi 10 Dez 13:46:17 2008||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops Mi 10 Dez 13:46:17 2008||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.7l zlib/1.2.3 c-ares/1.5.1 Mi 10 Dez 13:46:17 2008||Data directory: /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 6] Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Processor features: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL VMX EST TM2 SSSE3 CX16 TPR PDCM SSE4.1 Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||OS: Darwin: 9.5.0 Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Memory: 4.00 GB physical, 42.16 GB virtual Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Disk: 185.99 GB total, 41.91 GB free Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Local time is UTC +0 hours Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||No coprocessors Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008|World Community Grid|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 540553; location: (none); project prefs: default Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 15-Nov-2007 11:35:17) Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Host location: none Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||General prefs: using your defaults Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Reading preferences override file Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 3072.00MB Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 3686.40MB Mi 10 Dez 13:46:18 2008||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB Mi 10 Dez 13:46:48 2008|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Have you tried going step-by-step through the proxy help? http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=proxy
The Windows version (6.2.28) uses a newer version of the networking library, precisely because World Community Grid wanted better proxy support. So, these workarounds have a good chance of succeeding in your case. Post again if you run into trouble. |

Hey I tried those things stated their but they don't seem to work. first of all it took me ages to find the files on my mac.
----------------------------------------But than there was no file call cc_config and when i tried to create one these were the messages that came up Mi 10 Dez 14:23:46 2008||Missing start tag in cc_config.xml Do you know where exactly all those files should be on a mac or if there are generally any differences using a mac for the Proxy help? I see. You must have mistyped something in the file. Can you post it for me to check?

<cc_config>
<log_flags> <file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug> <http_debug>1</http_debug> <http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug> <proxy_debug>1</proxy_debug> </log_flags> <options> <force_auth>basic</force_auth> </options> </cc_config> This is the text that I saved as a xml file using "text edit" |

It looks okay.
But BOINC is stupid, and doesn't really support XML. If you saved it as Unicode, BOINC may fail to read it. Are there any character encoding options in your text editor? Saving it as ASCII is your best bet. |

my only formats are rtf doc and xml
If they are not optimal would you know a programm that could save the text in this certain format you mentioned? |

I asked for suggestions, and my helpful friends said "emacs".
My more helpful friends said: TextEdit -> Format -> Make Plain Text -> File -> Save As -> Plaintext Encoding == Western -> Save ? |

I know put in the config_cc file in the given format. this resolved the problem of there being an error message concerning this file. But it didn't solve the problem of connecting. I can conect to the service for logging in for a new project but not to the actual project.
Now i used the ntlm in the place your site told me. (simply because when trying to open videos it says type in ntlm network varification) It seems to me as if BOINC wouldn't react to the file. Simply because when i copied the link given to make boinc show you the type of proxy that showed no reaction. This is again the error message: Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Starting BOINC client version 6.2.18 for x86_64-apple-darwin Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.7l zlib/1.2.3 c-ares/1.5.1 Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Data directory: /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 6] Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Processor features: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL VMX EST TM2 SSSE3 CX16 TPR PDCM SSE4.1 Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||OS: Darwin: 9.5.0 Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Memory: 4.00 GB physical, 42.04 GB virtual Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Disk: 185.99 GB total, 41.80 GB free Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Local time is UTC +0 hours Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||No coprocessors Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008|World Community Grid|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 540553; location: (none); project prefs: default Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 15-Nov-2007 11:35:17) Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Host location: none Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||General prefs: using your defaults Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Reading preferences override file Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 3072.00MB Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 3686.40MB Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB Mi 10 Dez 21:12:18 2008|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. This is my fault. I forgot to ask you a really basic question: have you set up BOINC to use your proxy?
All these advanced settings won't help if you don't have that done (and you haven't, because you have <proxy_debug> enabled, but aren't getting any proxy messages in your message log). To set the proxy, open BOINC Manager (use the advanced view) and click on Advanced -> Options.... Enter your proxy information, including username and password if required. |
