new to the forum

Hi All,
New to this forum but

I already partake in SETI with boinc. The clean energy project also uses BOINC but I had to create a separate username, is there anyway to integrate both SETI and CE into one account?

regards

Alan

Welcome!

You only need one account for World Community Grid projects, but SETI isn't a World Community Grid project - and has absolutely nothing to do with our efforts here.

Yes, if both on the same client the only thing that needs to match is the email address registered on all you projects. The name is not important for this purpose.

Re: new to the forum

Hi,
Thanks for the info. So that fact that BOINC is used is coincidental.

regards

More or less, yes. BOINC is an open infrastructure and many different groups use it, but each is essentially independent of the others. BOINC is kind of the framework that the science applications (which do the actual work) hang on, not the project itself.

Re: new to the forum

yes BOINC is a nice program that allows you to work on more than 1 type of project and allot time..

before they came out people who wanted to run more than 1 DC projects (like me) stoped and started projects manualy...

welcome to the project

sad Re: new to the forum

Harvard Clean Energy seemed to have originaly planned on commin out with their own BOINC client peice, and I joined way back when. They never produced WU's. Now that they are under the WCG umbrella, does this mean that they will not be using the BOINC registration at all? Can I still use the BOINC client for WCG to process data? Or is the HCEP only using the WCG client software for this project?

I had set up my BOINC WCG account to only pull from HCEP, but I have not had any WU's.

Please clarify. sad

Re: new to the forum

The WCG client software is BOINC. It just has the World Community Grid logo on it, and a couple of extra features.

The Clean Energy Project work units are in short supply at the moment. Why not run a few other WCG projects while you wait? If you leave The Clean Energy Project as your only selection, but select the "alternative work" option, then you will get CEP tasks whenever they are available.

Re: new to the forum

yes WCG is part of the BOINC family of projects

i am guessing that CEP originaly setup to run on BOINC while waiting to get the go ahead on WCG... its much easyer for them to use this project instead of haveing everything run on BOINC ... there is an extra layer of experianced tech's to help with problems...

yes i would love it if they also ran on BOINC as an indepentant project and they might in the future when they are not at the stage of work WCG takes work ... who knows what the future might bring

yes there is a shortage of work units right now i am sure do to all the badge hunters.. trying to go for the gold..

yes be sure to check the do 'alternative worr' option that way you will be doing work instead of idleing when there isnt a CEP workunit redaly avalible
