Re: Seems Inactive to me

Hello from UTMB! No, we are not inactive. Yes, we are bringing this project back online. Yes, it is taking us longer than expected since we continually run into unexpected personnel and infrastructure surprises. But, behind the scenes, we are working hard and are committed to bringing this project back online. The coding and testing of Phase 2 (free energy calculations) of this project is occurring even as Phase 1 sits apparently silent.

Our main LINUX cluster used for pre/post processing of workunits and storage of the vast amount of information generated by your crunching computers was offline. Now, only our 12 TB IBM DS3200 storage system is offline. We are reinstalling 3rd party interface boards and drivers to bring this system up (if this fails, we will move this storage system to another cluster, and work from there). Surprising as it may seem, this is taking time.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Best wishes to all for this Holiday Season from the DDD-T group at UTMB.

Stan Watowich

Thanks for the update. It would be nice if we could receive more of these. Till I read this one I had NO clue what was going on with the project. Please keep the updates coming!

We are now pressing on a month since your last update. Will we hear anything new?

Re: Seems Inactive to me

We will either restart the project or get a formal update in the next week or so.

I guess no update yet huh?

sad Re: Seems Inactive to me

It was nice to hear from a project scientist in December, but almost a month has passed and still no WUs and no updates on when to expect WUs...

Uhm...LOL. This is distributing computing, why aint you using our diskspace?
Seems the BOINC-Client must be optimized to do this, too....

I guess because they need to have access to the data at any time to process it.

As you say "this is distributing computing", not distributed storage... which, probably, would not be relevant for these scientists anyway.

Please see these threads for discussions about distributed storage.
Distribute Storage
Distributed Storage!

Cheers. Jean.
