Hello,
I have been having trouble connecting to WCG, is anyone experiencing the same? I can ping www.worldcommunitygrid.org fine, I am connecting to and running Rosetta@home fine on this same machine/boinc installation, and all other network applications are also running fine. FYI, I am running 6.2.15 on Linux (Arch). Yeah, checked my proxy (privoxy). Actually, turned it off altogether as a test, but no difference. Since a couple of days ago, I am now in a different country for the next month, so the only thing I can think of is that the network I am on isn't letting it through. I though it might have been that, but the fact that Rosetta works fine was throwing me off.
Thanks fot the quick reply :-) vW |

I have the same problem here. I have no proxies, no firewalls, no Internet access troubles at all, but i receive the same message. The FAQ says: "make sure you are using the latest version of the BOINC software", but i did exactly the opposite.
This problem was happening with Boinc I installed from Ubuntu 8.10 repositories via Synaptic (boinc-manager version 6.2.12.1). Then I uninstalled it and then downloaded the old version (5.10.45) available in WCG's page and installed. The old version works almost fine. It runs the calculations regardless the rules I gave through "Preferences" AND through WCG profile. I'd like it starts to run after 1 minute of idleness, but it simply keeps running all the time. It doesn't stop! (i'll post this problem in another topic) |

MarcioVinicius, you would have got a slightly different message with the buggy 6.2.12 from Ubuntu. It's a known issue, one that Ubuntu have failed to fix, as far as I know.

The log states you get to the reference site too but not to WCG. Firewall?

I have iptables set to accept all outbound traffic, but again I turned the service off just to make sure and still no luck. I really think it must be the network here is blocking it since it only started when I arrived here a couple of days ago. Unfortunately I don't have permission or access to the change the network so I'll have to let it be.
Cheers, vW |

You're right, but there's a workaroud. I gave up the very old version of Boinc provided by WCG, installed back the newest one from Ubuntu's repositories and did the workaround. Now everything works fine for me. The workaround is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ca-certificates/+bug/246205 it's easy, quick and simple (though unnecessary if they fixed this silly bug). |

MarcioVinicius, thank you so much. I designed and documented the workaround, so I do, as it happens, already know about it.
But you meant well :-) |
